Contracted to help Yarra Valley Water to migrate from AS/NZS 4801 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems, to the ISO standard 45001 and to review and revise the internal environmental and quality systems to ensure alignment between all three standards. The work involved development and delivery of awareness training modules to communicate the changes to stakeholders. The organisation was successfully recertified to AS/NZS 14001 and AS/NZS 9001 by the external certifying body in November 2020 and achieved migration to ISO 45001. In addition to reviewing and revising the procedures supporting the management systems, the work provided the opportunity to review all the operational risk management documents and to liaise with operational teams to review some specific risks associated with work in the field. For example, the risk of exposure to explosive gas atmospheres which resulted in development and delivery of an awareness training module for staff.

Responsible for providing strategic direction for health and safety management for the University. This involved updating the Health and Safety Management System and supporting standards and procedures. Developing and facilitating management safety leadership workshops to embed knowledge of the responsibilities for implementing the management system. Following the relaunch of the H&S Management System and the workshop, compliance and systems auditing programs were introduced across all Faculties and Divisions. The role had oversight of Workers Compensation management and wellness programs.

Responsibilities included: Worked with the AFP HSE team to identify improvement opportunities for HSE management and developed a plan for approval by the Executive team. Developed a structured OHS Management System by reviewing existing documentation and ensuring alignment with AS/NZS4801. Worked with the regions to maintain AS4801 certification and with Victorian sites to retain their workers compensation self insurance status. Worked with the AFP HSE team and systems support to streamline monthly reporting to simplify the task of data entry. Provided regular HSE reports and performance updates to the AFP Executive team. Provided leadership, mentoring and support to the HSE team and identified ways to fill some of the resource gaps where required. Worked with the other Amcor Australasian divisions to bring consistency to the way HSE is managed across the business.

Responsibilities included reviewing and revising the EHS Management System to align with AS4801 and ISO14001 and to work with the EHS corporate team and business managers to implement the revised system. Developed a 2 year strategic plan for health and safety management across the business to improve the level of EHS management to prevent injuries and incidents. Reviewed, revised and re-launched the EHS Management System gaining feedback and support from key stakeholders in the process. Designed and implemented a 2 day workshop for managers and supervisors to communicate their EHS legal and company responsibilities and to provide them with the tools to manage the hazards and risks of their operations. Redesigned the company EHS audit and self assessment process to align with the re-launched EHS Management System and oversaw the implementation of the self assessment program during 2011. Led and mentored the team of Health and Safety Advisors to assist them to develop their careers and to support them in their role of providing hands on support to the operations.

Promoted a culture of health, safety and environmental change management across all Tyco Fire & Security (TFS) businesses in all countries where the company operated. Developed a strategy to build a consistent EHS program for TFS globally. Established a global network of EHS leaders representing all the TFS business Divisions. Worked with the global team EHS team to develop a TFS specific EHS Management System, which were distributed to all businesses. Established and implemented a Systems and Compliance Audit Program to review the status of EHS programs and provide feedback for continuous improvement. Established a monthly reporting system for EHS incidents from all regions to collect timely and accurate data for reports and quarterly certifications.  Built an environmental program to oversee compliance reporting, permit management, remediation of contaminated sites and oversight and reporting of environmental reserves. In cooperation with the senior management team and the business Divisions, set EHS goals and performance measures which are monitored and progress reported. Established a TFS EHS workshop for managers and supervisors, which focused on regulatory and company requirements and management responsibilities. Worked with the Learning and Development team to produce online training modules on risk controls specific for TFS businesses.
