Providing safety in vulnerable spaces is my forte. Whether it's a high-trauma atmosphere as a foster parent caring for unaccompanied refugee minors, easing anxiety of interns by creating an atmosphere of learning and collaboration, or building structure and boundaries to know how we do things, who is handling it, and how we can make things run smoothly. I am fully bilingual in English and Spanish, I can be incentivized with black tea lattes and yarn, and I haven't met a space or project I can't organize.

Helpline ResponderResilience: Advocates For Ending Violence Aug 2021 - Aug 2022Holland, Michigan, United StatesIf you find yourself facing domestic violence, sexual assault, housing instability, seeking therapy services or group meetings, Resilience is a phenomenal organization to which to get connected. I was trained as a volunteer to work their Helpline, which is a 24/7 service in which you can call to discuss any of the related topics above. Services are open to any gender or sexual orientation, any immigration status (including undocumented), and their goal is to be an advocate for those facing violence. I was a safe voice at the end of the line - whether it was to talk through complications in a difficult relationship, coordinate emergency shelter services, encourage a survivor to build up their team of support, or develop a safety plan to empower someone who previously had their power taken away. I have further used the skills gained from the training and experience to further my trauma-informed approach and best handle crisis situations and problem solving. -
Refugee Foster ParentBethany Christian Services Oct 2018 - Apr 2021Holland, Michigan, United StatesLicensed refugee foster parent for unaccompanied minors aged 0 to 17. This work had great depth - the highs of new experiences (first snow! seeing a hockey game! birthday cakes!) to the lows of processing harm they faced and navigating family dynamics and trauma and immigration needs alongside them. I am an open book about my experience as a foster parent, and was honored to care for a total of ten children over the span of two years. I completed various trauma-informed trainings, teamed up with case managers, therapists, school staff, medical providers, and both federal and state agencies to advocate and make a space to call home with our bonus kids. Somos un gran equipo. -
Assistant Procurement ManagerLanguage Services Associates Feb 2010 - Mar 2012Horsham, Pennsylvania, United StatesAfter working as a project coordinator with on-location interpreters, I was promoted to the procurement department to actively recruit telephonic interpreters. The majority of my recruitment was for English < > Spanish interpreters, however, I also worked on recruiting rare and more difficult to encounter languages based on incoming refugees and clients providing services to them. Recruiting involved a lot of cultural competency, researching native speaker populations throughout the U.S. to identify potential linguists and regional groupings of speakers. I also screened hundreds of resumes, negotiated rates, assessed English proficiency, and found creative ways of unearthing potential linguists in both the U.S. and abroad. My most enjoyable part of this position was speaking with linguists and learning more about their lives, their culture, the historical data of refugee resettlement in the U.S., and broadening my scope of the beautifully diverse world in which we live. -
On-Location Project CoordinatorLanguage Services Associates Feb 2008 - Feb 2010Horsham, Pennsylvania, United StatesBased on client interpretation needs, I coordinated the placement of independently contracted interpreters to arrive on-location for a variety of services (courts, medical facilities, school districts, social services, employer trainings, insurance companies, etc.) Assignments were based throughout the United States, and so it was necessary to connect interpreters to meet both the language need and skillsets to match the topic of assignment.
