It included: media relations professionals, communications experts, visual content experts, corporate access professionals, business development professionals, and account managers. In collaboration with clients, they worked closely with U.S. and Israeli colleagues to offer clients strategic advice and support.

The Alpine Institute for Drug Discovery was a not-for-profit social enterprise whose mission was to serve academic researchers and technology transfer offices, especially in the Alpine region, by commercializing academic discoveries with potential to become immunotherapies. I was responsible for fundraising and business development, negotiating collaborations with university and industry partners.

Responsible for business development activities, I led out-licensing activities, including managing diligence and term sheet negotiations, for several assets including dipraglurant, a Phase II product for Parkinson's disease, and preclinical products for: Alzheimer's disease; anxiety; diabetes; depression; multiple sclerosis; pain; and inflammation-related diseases. I also served as alliance manager on our partnerships with Janssen and Merck & Co.

I was responsible for investor and media relations and participated in business development. I helped shape and distribute communications around our products and major events such as our IPO, clinical trial data (positive and negative), licensing deals (signings & terminations), management changes, R&D days, AGMs and financial results. I also maintained and grew our networks of investors, analysts, media and potential pharma partners.

I helped source and write stories on European and U.S. companies for this biotechnology trade publication. I most enjoyed elucidating new technologies with big commercial potential, analyzing the impact of the financial markets and unraveling innovative strategic partnerships and impactful M&A transactions. To do this job I maintained relationships with leading venture capitalists, specialist public equity investors and senior managers in the biotech and pharma industry.

This biotech-focused institutional investment fund, later known as Cooper Hill Partners, was partially owned and housed by Hambrecht & Quist (now JP Morgan) and invested - long and short - in publicly traded companies as well as in private companies. As part of the small 2-3 person team, I sourced and analyzed investment opportunities, performed market research, set up and managed trading accounts and helped to market this highly successful fund, which grew from about $20 million under management, when I started, to over $300 million in 1999.

The Laboratory of the Biology of Addictive Diseases was a large NIDA (National Instutes of Drug Abuse) funded center headed by Professor Mary Jeanne Kreek, MD, where research spanned basic molecular biology to small clinical trials. I was part of a molecular neurobiology team, led by Rudolph Spangler, PhD, focused on developing and using one of the first quantitative assays for measuring mRNA expression in mouse, rat and human brain. Although not a PhD student, I independently ran preclinical studies and performed subsequent quantitative mRNA analyses for key dopaminergic and opioid system receptors. I was "first-author" on 2 publications and listed as co-author on multiple peer-reviewed scientific publications. I also participated in clinical trials for putative therapeutics, drawing blood samples from human subjects and running biomarker analyses.
