In the next decade, with its increased scope of application areas, AI will only have even greater impact on the development of different industries. Despite huge market opportunities, launching Edge AI “systematically”, and ensuring that it leads to the advancement of industries requires well-structured strategy. As the Head of Edge AI of Advantech, I define 3 important fields of focus:1. AI semiconductor vendors: Lead tight cooperation with global leading semiconductor companies. Define and tailor-made system products according to the different computing characteristics of GPU, FPGA and ASIC, and lead the products to application scenario. 2. The ecosystem surrounding AI application development: Cooperate closely with AI Independent Software Vendor (ISV) to ensure hardware, BSP and applications are all well-consolidated as commoditized product. Extend marketing and promotion to verticals.3. Vertical AI deployment business model: A successful roll-out of AI depends heavily on that the implementor possesses the required domain knowledge of a vertical market—as regulation, implementation scenario and business decision all vary among different vertical markets in different regions. Therefore, we have formed partnership with leading Domain-Focused System Integrators (DFSI) in each region to increase both the commercial value of our product and operational efficiency. I have been leading multiple projects in these 3 fields mentioned above. Furthermore, I see 4 applications of Edge AI has become mature, and will experience exponential growth in the coming years: 1. Production automation: the application surrounding “Vision”. For instance, Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) is very common implemented now.2. Smart Factory Management: Including but not limited to logistics, alert, monitoring employee behavior, production efficiencies. 3. Intelligent Transportation System: including but not limited to traffic flow, pedestrian flow, traffic and traffic light control4. Medical Image Assistant: the image that is shown “real-time” has seen the most solid market needs, for instance, X-ray, endoscopy.For a long time, our team has been working tirelessly in the development of Industrial Server and AI Edge System. With our previous success, accumulated experience, passion and competence, Edge AI team is positioned to be the next growth engine of Advantech.
