Michael brings to the table over 15 years of experience in working within the private, public, and not-for-profit sectors on security, safety, continuity, and emergency preparedness issues. Michael recently worked as Program Manager for Emergency Management at the NYC Department of Correction (DOC) where he was responsible for implementing a wide range of emergency management programs, including but not limited to developing a comprehensive emergency management liaison plan, working with internal and external city government stakeholders, developing and facilitating disaster exercises, responding to emergencies and represent DOC at interagency meetings in the field.Prior to working at DOC Michael was the University Director of Risk Management and Business Continuity at The City University of New York (CUNY). At CUNY, Michael was responsible for managing university-wide emergency preparedness and business continuity planning initiatives and leading the University’s Emergency Preparedness Committee. He also liaised with city, state and federal agencies to advise, develop plans and build relationships.Michael previously directed the Office of Security and Safety at New York Law School (NYLS), overseeing emergency management, fire safety programs, day-to-day security operations, and training programs. While at NYLS, Michael helped coordinate security operations for VIP visitors such as former NYC Mayor Mike Bloomberg; DHS Secretary Michael Chertoff; Secretary of State John Kerry; UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon; and the Honorable Judith Sheindlin. Michael also coordinated the NYLS response and recovery efforts to Hurricane Sandy.Michael has previously held positions with NYC Emergency Management as a Watch Commander and the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene as a coordinator responsible for the department’s emergency notification system. Michael has also designed and conducted over 15 disaster drills, tabletop and full-scale exercises along east coast with The Olson Group Ltd. and the American Red Cross in New York City.In addition, Michael holds a BS in Public Affairs from Indiana University and an MPA in Emergency and Disaster Management from Metropolitan College of New York. Michael is also a FEMA Level 1 Continuity Practitioner and has other emergency management and security training from the FEMA Emergency Management Institute, University of Hawaii National Disaster Preparedness Training Center, Texas A&M National Emergency Response and Rescue Training Center, and the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center.
