Mahadev Raman is an Arup Fellow and serves as Chairman of the Arup Trustee Board after retiring from the firm in 2020. His most recent operational roles at Arup were Chairman of Arup University Council and Director of Arup University. Prior to that, he was Chairman of Arup Americas and a member of the Arup Group Board.Mahadev is a mechanical engineer by profession and has been in practice for over 4 decades. He has provided engineering design leadership for multi-disciplinary teams on a wide variety of projects globally. He has particular expertise in the design of sustainable, high-performance and energy efficient buildings and has pioneered the use of sophisticated analytical techniques to improve the performance of low-energy designs. Recently, his interests and expertise have expanded into systems design for indoor agriculture.Mahadev is a faculty member at the Princeton University School of Architecture where he teaches a graduate level course on environmental and net-zero energy building design. He has previously served as a Director of the Architectural League of New York and as a member of the WPI Architectural Engineering program's Advisory Board. He currently serves on the board of American Friends of Cecily’s Fund, a registered charity providing educational opportunities and support for Zambian children orphaned by the AIDS epidemic.More recently he has joined Nirman Ventures, a fund focused on construction tech startups, as a General Partner.
