Responsible for full general management duties across Natures Way Foods, Merston Site. The site produces a range of salad meal and leafy bowls for delivery to all major supermarkets.Full P&L responsibility.

Responsibility for all aspects of the continuous manufacturing site.

Design and delivery of a programme of process development and continuous improvement covering all aspects of produce operations.

 Leading the specification, CapEx, installation and commissioning of a pilot scale pellet production facility for R&D. CapEx delivery including creation of URS, P&ID and all contracts for successful implementation. Delivery of global strategic capability and knowledge development around the platforms I am responsible (Baked Lays, Pellets and Extruded Snacks, novel snack manufacture). Delivery through developing systems of control of current processes or developing new process solutions to deliver differentiated product designs and competitive advantage. Leadership (Europe and South Africa) of roll out and training of work streams relating to alignment of process modifications to product transformations – part of the new technical stage gate system within PepsiCo R&D. Lead a team of engineers to fully characterise a sheeting pilot plant to understand all key parameters for control and scale up. This led to a number of process changes to deliver consistent production and a Capital request for large changes to the line to allow accurate scaling. Leading program to develop improved final product attributes for a potato base product by leveraging skills and knowledge of the raw material suppliers. Unlocking process levers within the processing of the potato flaking process.  Led, as part of the placement student group, a marketing campaign to encourage Chemical Engineering student to consider the food industry as a career path.

 Ownership for financial control, analysis and performance reporting of £130 million budget (Raw Materials and Labour) for largest global Potato Chip production facility. Led labour planning work stream for the UK, delivering saving across the UK business of £8million. Developed a labour modelling tool which allows clear reporting of information by category allowing clear understanding of financial deviation from plan. Leadership of a team of financial technical specialists. Restructured the team to deliver greater efficiency and allowing a head count reduction. Financial and Operating parameter performance reporting to the senior leadership team. Site data was broken down and reported by line and area to Operations managers identifying key area of financial gain/loss during the week/period. Developed training and rolled out to all operations managers and front line managers to support financial understanding and focus cost reduction work streams.

 Leadership of teams to deliver across a balanced scorecard (Safety, Cost, Quality, Production, Sustainability and Service) Management and ownership of the 2 Potato Chip and 3 snacks lines during a shift. Leadership of Safety Champions programme – full site. People management of up to 50 permanent and 30 agency workers. I have managed teams through expansion and redundancy and have personally managed a number of conflict situations.

 Liaison with government officials/departments to facilitate access and working permits for operational work. Organisation of all logistical elements of contract delivery. Equipment, staff and contract services to/from site. Project management of all underwater activities, including SCUBA diver training of teams. On site trouble shooting to ensure work program stayed on track for delivery. Technical support when drilling in clay.

SCUBA diving training school providing all levels of teaching and services. Senior Diving Instructor: Delivery of training at all levels, over 500 pupils certified. Awarded “Best Diving Instructor South East Asia in 2004” by Scuba Schools International.

 End to End responsibility for a glass fibre sheeting line (Inc. Raw Materials specification/qualification, maintenance planning, 24/7 production scorecard delivery, employee and equipment safety, customer complaints resolution) Six Sigma methodology for reduction in cost, increasing output and downtime reduction. People management and leadership of 30 employees across a range of shift patterns.

 Strategic development of ceramic technology pipeline for gas turbine engines Company lead for EPRSC, DTi and European Commission projects for technology advancement of high temperature gas turbine engine components

 Process improvement of a range of unit operations covering extrusion, spray drying, milling, pressing, firing of ceramic materials. Production process control for use of ceramics in capacitor applications. Ownership of the thermal processing hall Work with Industrial Engineering to design, build, install, commission and run a feed through capacitor line – output 2million unit/month. This required the design and implementation of a full statistical process control (SPC) system to monitor.
