Mahdiyyah is a Textile Waste Operations Manager, Educator, and Upcycle Textile Designer with over a decade of experience in education, circular textile design, operations management, and textile-to-textile recycling.Her community workshops offer participants a program to reconnect with their understanding of conscious consumption(upcycling), natural resources, and ancestral practices of resourcefulness (popularly known as sustainability). She works with brands to create targeted program and strategies to help mitigate their textile waste operations. Mahdiyyah applies key knowledge and information about material innovations, builds relationships with strategic sustainable suppliers, local skill-specific resource pools and identifies environmentally conscious choices to limit the negative impact on local communities of the global majority, and lead to the achievement of sustainable objectives and key results. Her design process of Fabric Alchemy calls on the ancestral technique of upcycling and mechanical recycling discarded, naturally-occurring textiles into mono-material, biodegradable garments which ultimately considers a closed-loop design process.
