I've been in the field of education for almost 24 years now. The workplace for me has to be one that encourages originality, progress and respects diversity. We now spend more time with our colleagues than our families so it is important to connect with them at that level. A healthy work environment consists of empathetic, creative and inspirational people who celebrate each others success as they work towards a mutual goal. We must have more motivational leaders inspiring people to believe in their own potentials and always aim for the sky. Social Emotional health is the key factor to the success of any organisation or community. In my 24 years I have learnt more than I have taught. Collaborating with students, colleagues, senior managers , trainers and customers has made me more aware of the power of my profession and how important it is to stay connected at a global level and be aware of the changes that take place around us. This is one profession which , sadly ,does not have many financial perks. However I have met some of the most beautiful human beings working as teachers and trainers, making a difference to the futures of young mind. These are the individuals driven by passion, commitment and devotion towards their cause. I find myself challenged towards recruiting more of such people as the younger generation is finance driven, therefore, I am working towards tweaking our expectations to make them more employee friendly while still holding onto the ones that determine the teaching and learning at our organisation. We need to continuously review and revise our curriculum to adjust to the fast changes the world is experiencing. Working on skills, basic and complex has now become a challenge for educationists as they have had to adjust to changes overnight during the pandemic. We are now looking at a generation which is faster in certain ways when it comes to it and independent learning, whereas some basic skills such as fine motor are lacking. The question now lies in whether students should continue to be assessed in the same ways especially as our teaching strategies and expectations do not meet our assessment criteria. Now the world and its expectations are changing faster than most organisations can adjust to.
