Heddon Valley

My role is to welcome visitors to the National Trust site and guve them information and advice on the different trails. I take cash and card payments, open and close the shift, as well as cashing up and banking. I handle new National Trust memberships and hire out Trampers (off road mobility scooters), this involves daily checks, taking bookings, handling paperwork, giving tutorials on use and going through safety precautions.

My time within this employment has of course been entirely throughout the Coronavirus pandemic, which has enabled me to learn how to quickly adapt my skills and techniques when it comes to cleanliness and customer service, as my attention to detail has even greatly increased to ensure that I reduce customers’ exposure to any germs that may be present within the cafe, whilst also keeping myself safe. Otters was extremely busy during Eat Out to Help Out, so this has given my further experience and confidence during stressful situations. I am also a key holder at this employment, am often responsible for members of staff and the cafe, cashing up and putting in orders.

My time at Twelve in Clifton, Bristol enabled me to really focus on perfecting my barista skills as I got additional training from barista trainers from Origin coffee, as well as training with my boss, Jen Nichols who has participated in many coffee art competitions. Throughout this employment I was promoted to being assistant manager which involved being a key holder, opening and closing the cafe, cashing up and being responsible for staff and the shop. As with all of my previous employment, I have continued to develop excellent customer service skills as well as working extremely well under pressure while also keeping everything to a high standard.

Due to becoming very confident with all of these skills I have trained up numerous new staff members in all of these areas.
