I was in a French-speaking role in Quebec, Canada. I am in charge of a different group of young children every week and running activities for them.

Was in charge of a group of kids aged between 11 and 17 every 2 weeks. The role was entirely French-speaking. I was first point of call for the kids with any issues they might have had during their time at camp, was in charge of leading certain activities for them, always overseeing them in the other activities I wasn't leading myself. Was an extremely tough role with long hours, but one that was immensely rewarding and would absolutely do again if I could. The role always required excellent time management in order to always be on time for every activity and get the campers out of the dormitories on time.

This company encourages its staff to converse with customers and interact with as many people who walk through the doors as possible. I was taught to manage tasks both on floor and in back of house, as well as how to use the till systems and how to go above and beyond for customers requiring an item that we might not have had any stock of in the shop - we would instead liaise with the national warehouse and see if we could get their item sent out to them from there. Communication between team members through the use of headsets whilst on and off floor meant that listening to others and setting standards on the length of time it might take to do a task, and where you are at all times was key to the smooth running of the store. I also took on the role of one of the team members in charge of the shop's visual merchandising - following floor plans whilst also adapting it to the stock our store specifically had, as well as setting up the fire stage of a summer sale ready for customers the next day.

This job placed a huge emphasis on being able to work under pressure of customers and being able to multi-task, particularly on busy weekends when there were booked events, table bookings and walk-ins. Required to learnt to make cocktails, wait tables, serve food and drinks, and collect glasses whilst keeping customers as content as possible.

The manager of this store was on maternity leave, so I was used to being on the floor on my own and managing the store expectations and keeping on top of stock levels. I ensured that the required data was retrieved from the till at the end of each day and then totals collected at the end of the week. I was required to compare our shop's and others' data from this week in comparison to the same week the previous financial year in order to work out gross profit or loss. I also had to make sure new floorsets were matched in store in accordance with the new season stock coming through in deliveries every few weeks.
