Maia's recent work includes:- Representing a defendant in the SFO’s trial of senior executives from Barclays in relation to its fundraising during the financial crisis- Advising clients investigated and interviewed under caution by the SFO in two separate investigations arising from alleged LIBOR manipulation. In both of these cases, the SFO decided not to charge- Securing an acquittal at trial for a client charged with rapes allegedly committed when he was a teenager- Advising on potential liability of a company and its director in respect of a police and HSE investigation into gross negligence manslaughter and corporate manslaughter- Acting for a high-profile individual charged with offences relating to indecent images of children- Advising a suspect in a long-running Metropolitan Police investigation into a large alleged conspiracy to commit misconduct in a public office- Advising a suspect in an investigation concerning an alleged international bribery / corruption conspiracy

Maia joined chambers following successful completion of pupillage, during which she practised predominantly in all aspects of general crime. Maia appeared in the Crown, Magistrates’, and Youth courts, on behalf of both the prosecution and the defence, on a daily basis. She has appeared in cases across the spectrum of criminal law, from violence, to drugs, to offences of dishonesty.Maia was instructed as a junior in a three week multi-handed fraud trial at Southwark Crown Court, in a case with a number of on-going disclosure issues throughout the first week of the trial. Maia also appeared in a number of confiscation cases as a junior alone.
