I have 20 years of experience working in not-for-profit event and project management, as well as writing, editing, and publishing. Currently, I am the Executive Director of NAMES network, where I strategize and oversee the fulfilment of the network’s mission, goals, and objectives. I lead a multi-functional team, developing and offering unique services, activities, and projects that aim to build and reinforce the science engagement community in North Africa and Middle East! My passion and mission is engaging, informing, educating, and inspiring communities and individuals, whether science engagement professionals or the public at large.I am also the Head of the Cultural Outreach Publications Unit at the Library of Alexandria and Editor-in-Chief of SCIplanet, a science popularization magazine published in Arabic and English. I manage a team of four editors and two graphic designers, producing mostly promotional, but also educational, publications for 15 different departments within the Cultural Outreach Sector that aim to promote and popularize science, art, and heritage through a diversity of activities. SCIplanet magazine, both printed and online, was my initiative and I am proud of how the Publications Team and I have developed it since it launched as a newsletter in 2009.Outside of work, I'm an avid reader; I also enjoy writing for myself, not just for work! I love and enjoy practicing a variety of arts and crafts: drawing, painting, canvas stitching, knitting, and recently designing and sewing casual wear.Another common aspect between professional and personal is that I enjoy networking, meeting new people, exchanging thoughts and learning from each other. The purpose of creating NAMES is to foster cooperation between existing science centers and museums, as well as other science engagement entities, professionals, and enthusiasts, in North Africa and the Middle East with the aim of benefiting from all available resources and experiences within the region to further enhance the role of all member institutions and individuals.Our objectives are to:1- Identify the current situation, means, and venues of science engagement in the region.2- Promote best practices, support effective communication, and encourage excellence and innovation in informal science learning.3- Provide professional development for the science engagement field in the region, collaborate to enhance the performance of field professionals, and make best use of all available resources within the region.4- Spread the message of informal education and strengthen the position of science centers and museums within the community at large.5- Emphasize and popularize the cultural and scientific heritage of the region.

I also developed and managed the Network's communications and events.During my tenure as Secretary, I managed the organization of 5 network conferences in Egypt, Kuwait, Tunisia, Turkey, and Jordan; co-organization of 2 summer schools in Granada, Spain, and Alexandria, Egypt; and organization of more than 10 Board Meetings in a variety of countries whether as standalone events or within other events.

The unit serves 15 departments within the Library’s Cultural Outreach Sector that aim to promote and popularize science, art, and heritage through a myriad of activities.I am also the Editor-in-Chief of SCIplanet, a bilingual edutainment science magazine, printed and online. I initiated the magazine under the umbrella of the Planetarium Science Center; the Publications Team and I have developed it together since it launched as a newsletter in 2009. As of mid-2024, the online magazine features 1000 articles; between 2009 and 2022, we produced 52 printed issues.Annually, the Cultural Outreach Publications Unit designs more than 2000 pages, translates more than 30,000 words, revises more than 180,000 words, in addition to publishing more than 60 articles online and more than 600 social media posts. -
