Graduate Research AssistantJila Aug 2015 - Sep 2016Boulder, CoI conducted research in characterization of ultrafast properties of magnetic materials. Specifically, using an 800nm Ti:Sapph pulsed laser and employing the principles of high harmonic generation and the magneto-optical Kerr effect (MOKE), I investigated the ultrafast (femtosecond to picosecond time scale) dynamic responses of Iron, Nickel and Cobalt when pumped with a short, high peak power laser pulse. I presented the results of this experiment for my master's thesis, and in a talk at the APS March Meeting in 2016. Additionally, I was 3rd author on a Physical Review B paper presenting results of a different but related experiment. -

Undergraduate Research AssistantJila Aug 2013 - May 2015Boulder, CoI built up a velocity map imager and a laser beam line for an experiment that studied ultrafast laser-gas interactions, and I modified a LabVIEW program to enable image collection from a CCD camera. I worked with a team of graduate students and post docs to investigate the strong field ionization of noble gas atoms using a two-color circularly polarized driving laser field. We used the velocity map imager to obtain the photoelectron distribution of the ionized electrons, and in Matlab performed tomographic reconstruction of the driving laser field. My honors thesis on this work was given a summa cum laude distinction, and I am an author on 3 publications (in Physical Review Letters and Physical Review A) connected with this experiment. I presented this work in a poster session at the 2015 APS March Meeting. -
Summer InternSlac National Accelerator Laboratory Jun 2013 - Aug 2013Menlo Park, CaI developed and prototyped a motorized mount for mirrors in a laser beam, and used an Arduino, a Raspberry Pi, and a GUI I created in Python to remotely operate the mount. The $60 cost of the mount was 1/10 the cost of similar commercially available systems. My work resulted in a first author publication in the American Journal of Physics. -
