My name is Maja Smith. I was born and raised in Serbia. I grew up in my country playing tennis with intentions to become a professional tennis player. In 2002 my life changed as I received a tennis scholarship from the University of Central Arkansas. My USA tennis opportunity gave me an opportunity to start earning BS degree in psychology with minor in sociology. I graduated with my BS in psychology from the University of Maryland University College (goes by a different name now). During that time I was a military wife that supported and followed my husband who is serving United States Air Force. As a military wife I worked for AAFES in the retail department. Also, while we were stationed in Okinawa I had my own private business where I was teaching kids and adults tennis. As we came back to the United States I started working with adults (IDD population) within day program and vocational program. I was assisted living supervisor for 6 years. I also gained experience in day program and vocational program services while serving IDD population while living in Mississippi. As my husband got PCS orders to Colorado, I decided to continue with my education and start earning degree in ABA field. While working in the ABA field, I gained experience to work with children and adults in a clinical setting as well as in a day program/vocational program setting. As a master program candidate, I had an opportunity to be part of building ABA program for adults within vocational/day program setting. While working with adult population, I have received a QBS Safety Care Trainer certificate. I had an opportunity to teach Direct Support Professionals and other employees Safety Care Procedures and provide them with certifications as they pass the course. In April of 2023, I have received my masters degree in ABA and I am still in a process of working toward my fieldwork hours as a certified RBT. At the end of 2023, I plan on starting another masters degree in clinical counseling which will give me an opportunity to earn my LPC license along with my BCBA.
