As an aspiring lawyer, what drives me the most to pursue this profession, is to help justice be served. Growing up in Newark, life appears to be normal because it's what we're used to. But as a young child, when seeing others on T.V., with nice houses, nice schools, and clean communities, it drove me to question why mines did not look the same. When starting school, I then learned about the history of poverty and oppression African Americans faced in America throughout history. This triggered my passion to learn about topics such as systemic racism, mass incarceration, and more. My ultimate goal is to make a change in the justice system and wipe out the loopholes within our society. This stems from my desire to create financial equality and opportunities for minorities in America. And more importantly help them receive full equality in the court room, which hasn't happened because of the underlying racism superiors hold. One day when I'm a lawyer, there's going to be an African American man or woman in my case who is being threatened with long-term incarceration for a non-violent charge. And in most cases, they aren't set up with the opportunity to have any other lifestyle. With this being said, I will ensure they receive justice properly, and there will a successful post life after incarceration.
