About Makayla Rivera

Hi there! I am Makayla Rivera and I am a committed change maker with a passion for social justice, poetry, storytelling and advocacy. For as long as I can remember, I have been determined to use my voice to change the world, one poem at a time. My drive for social change continues to grow as I strengthen my skills in advocacy, public speaking and communications.Aside from being a published author who uses her words to create change alongside organizations like the Center for Gender Justice and Opportunity at Georgetown Law, I am also an active member of the Spelman Speech and Debate Team, Pre-Law Society and Aunt Chloe Literary Magazine. In my free time, I enjoy visiting museums, open mic nights and art galleries. As a first year English major with a concentration in sociology, I am acquiring skills in advocacy, leadership and communication. With my interests ranging from law, journalism, publishing, and politics, I am eager to advance my skills through law and journalism internships. My journey, paved by my desire to advocate for others through storytelling leads me to combine my skills in communication and advocacy to spark social change and positive impact. Connect with me to explore how we can change the world- whether it's through poetry, storytelling or advocacy.
