Since high school, I have seen the disparities in receiving support for mental health. Growing up in a small town with very little resources, I discovered my passion for helping those who are struggling with their mental health.Through various work, educational and volunteer opportunities, I have furthered this passion. Throughout my Master of Social Work degree as well as various professional roles in support services with individuals and families, I have had many opportunities to deepen my theoretical and practical skills as I have supported individuals who struggle with mental, physical, or development disabilities through assessment and by teaching them invaluable life skills to help them be successful. My most recent jobs in private practice and Carizon as an intake clinician/child and family therapist has given me various opportunities to provide short- and long-term counselling to a variety of individuals (children, teens, and parents) as well as complete biopsychosocial and trauma assessments while also collaborating with community agencies to co-ordinate service. Throughout these experiences, I have been able to develop my clinical further therapeutic skills further through use of various modalities, such as Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness Based Therapy, Crisis Intervention, as well as using a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach to provide support to individuals and families. I am also currently in the process of completing Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT) training by the Child Trauma Academy to be able to further assess developmental trauma and build treatment plans based on individual need. My time in clinical counselling has greatly enhanced my skill set in various situations and I am looking to expand my toolbox. I have also had previous positions as a research assistant that allowed me to write profiles for online databases, collect data, summarize articles, as well as write literature reviews. These jobs exposed me to a plethora of situations in which I have learned to adapt. I have worked with many individuals across the lifespan. I also have strong experience in social service positions, research, crisis intervention, and customer service with recent experience in assessment and walk-in counselling. I am looking to enhance these skills further as I deepen my understanding of my role of a social worker.Interests include: adolescent mental health, trauma, gender inequality, and attachment.
