Makeda Warner is a native of the Commonwealth of Dominica and is the Senior Program Manager for Project CETI Dominica’s Marine Conservation Fellowship. Through the fellowship, she increases ocean literacy and builds capacity among Dominica’s youth. She empowers them to take a central role in further developing Dominica’s blue economy.With eight years of tertiary teaching experience and numerous positions relating to publiceducation and advocacy, Makeda has a keen interest in empowering students and communities through outreach, public education and awareness. Makeda has completed an Executive Master of Business Administration in Project Management at Formato Educativo Business School in Madrid, Spain. Additionally, she holds a postgraduate degree from The University of the West Indies, Trinidad, in Biodiversity Conservation & Sustainable Development in the Caribbean as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology and an interdisciplinary minor in Biology from Midwestern State University in Texas.Makeda has worked in the Geothermal industry in St. Kitts & Nevis serving as West Indies Power Nevis’ Junior Geologist. Her interest in Marine Science grew while working on the Eastern Caribbean Marine Managed Areas Network (ECMMAN) small grants project focused on creating new marine managed areas and raising awareness about existing areas to conserve ocean resources, ensure food security and secure sustainable livelihoods in both St. Kitts & Nevis and Dominica. Makeda also had the opportunity to broaden her knowledge of the fisheries industry providing technical and administrative support as a Fisheries Liaison Officer at the Fisheries Division in Dominica.She has a special interest in biodiversity, conservation, climate change and sustainable development projects.
