Battle Ground Academy

Kids Academy is a summer camp organization dedicated to helping underprivileged rural area children. Recommended by their academic teachers, these students attend this camp every day like a regular school to learn math, writing, and reading in the mornings while engaging in fun activities in the afternoon. Every Friday is a scheduled field trip outing where we planned things such as a trip to the zoo or bowling. I was hired as one of only three teachers, and helped organize many of the activities and created my own curriculum for the class, focusing on grammar, sentence structure, and QWOD (quote/word of the day).

Battle Ground Academy

When the parents of the middle school students of Battle Ground Academy could not pick up their children right after school, we offered a program called Aftercare so students had a place to do their homework, get tutoring, and play outside. I was one of two employees who had the pleasure of getting to know a lot of younger students for about two hours every afternoon.

I was able to switch from supportive sideline to leading center referee for any game.
