I’m an avid programmer and maker with specific interests in computer graphics, music, and education. Moreover, I have extensive experience with full-stack web development, and some in games development. Recently, I’ve pursued self-learning the fundamental physics behind electronic circuits to build my own hardware projects. For instance, I’m currently building a bespoke IoT remote control to abstract and manage devices in my bedroom. The project combines custom CircuitPython drivers for displays and inputs, a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 for component communication, and a Node.JS server running on my Raspberry Pi 5. To house the electronics, I’m iteratively designing a case using Fusion 360 and my modified 3D printer. My university scholarship funds projects just like this one, so I can broaden my computing knowledge beyond the course content.On the software side, I’ve consolidated my Angular web framework knowledge, having used it for a year, and am now adapting to React which is used in DurHack software. My current focus is to practise more sustainable and efficient programming methodologies – I developed (and will soon publish) a Java Minecraft plugin using an iterative approach and working with feedback from users. Moreover, I tracked issues and development more effectively via GitHub which I haven’t done before. I’m looking forward to my Software Engineering module this year in Durham where I can improve these skills further, home in on client interaction and problem definition, and collaborate with a team of colleagues to produce a solution at a much larger scale than I have ever before.I’m excited to grow my network this year by working with the DurHack organiser team and attending other hackathons in the country. Additionally, I hope to try out new opportunities, volunteer, and grow my repertoire of skills.
