Having undergone preliminary training of the BLABO automated Tank cleaning system in Melbourne, I was seconded to the Oil & Gas Division as lead Operator for the first, and upcoming projects throughout Australasia.Recent Projects; 2013 CALTEX’s Kurnell refinery in Sydney. (with the help of onsite labour during set-up and dismantling) an American Oreco certified technician and myself mobilised , operated, maintained and demobilised a leased BLABO unit.This was the first time a BLABO automated, (non man-entry) tank cleaning system had been used in Australasia. Tank 134Following that, 2 Oreco technicians from Denmark and myself again Mobilised and cleaned a second Tank (201) for CALTEX at Kurnell.2013 CALTEX Kurnell. Another Australasian first. We utilised the BLABO suction Module to filter and transfer contents of a ULP Tank to the Terminal across Botany Bay . Was part of the team that removed 12,000m3 of Hydrocarbon & waste from Tank 10 (Kurnell) & clean for inspection. Chiefly I was responsible for running the liquid-ring vacuum unit and fabricating equipment to remotely evacuate water from various locations on the floating roof. This was done without entry, from the wind girder 13m above.2014 Mobilisation (X3) of BLABO system at Clyde VIVA (Formerly SHELL) and cleaning 6 Crude Tanks. Tanks 43, 44, 50, 53, 34 & 35. Also connected to an outlet on Tank 33 and recirculated the product through the system, including High Speed Separator, to trial removal of oil/water emulsion. 2014 Mobilisation of BLABO system at CALTEX Lytton to clean Crude Tank 2007. After mobilisation, I was sent back to CALTEX Kurnell to set up another Oreco Unit.2014 Mobilisation of BLABO system at CALTEX Kurnell to clean 3 CrudeTanks (411, 412 & 413). Also prepared Tanks 412 & 413 for final detailing including removing the heating coils from 413.2015 Mobilisation of BLABO system at Clyde VIVA (Formerly SHELL) to process the contents of Tank 51 (10,000+m³ Heavy Crude).

Originally working out of the Melbourne Municipal & Industrial Services branch, I was principally involved with underground pipework maintenance, Non-Destructive Digging, Vacuum Loading & H/P Water Blasting. Projects including shut-down maintenance work at Chemical plants, oil & gas refineries, paper mills & power stations. Diverse tasks including underground service locating, emergency spill response, to pipework refurbishing, catalyst removal and steel “cold cutting”.In addition to work in Melbourne, I was deployed to numerous interstate projects, servicing clients involved in construction, mining, refining and energy/resources recovery.Some previous projects include;Pressure washing all GRP pipework at the Victorian Desalination plant in Wonthaggi prior to commissioning. Task duration, 7 months, all night work. successfully completed, on time. Due to the construction material, this was the first time we had used plastic nozzles (steel inserts) and centralisers adjustable in excess of 1.5m.In conjunction with a pigging contractor, clearing 16km of blocked 150mm pipe, located 100km from the client’s remote mine site in the South Australian desert. Locate & expose, at 12 locations, the main feed lines for the new gas-turbine power station in Mortlake, Victoria. The pipes were buried below the steel cable “Earthing Network", in a mix of sand and cement. Excavations were up to 3m deep, and were successfuly completed without damaging protective coating at any stage as requested.

I made 3 trips for Starkist aboard the MV Auro, a 225' purse seiner tuna boat, mostly in the equatorial waters between the The Solomon, Marshal & Mariana Island groups. Each trip was approximately 4 months in duration, My primary role was as deck hand & oiler (below decks assistant). Various other tasks included cable & rope splicing, net sewing, welding, painting, carpentry, ships diver, small engine repairs, assisting with helicopter maintenance, manning binoculars spotting for fish sign, and 2hrs watch at night. On morning sets I piloted the work-boat. A small tug like vessel.
