When I was 10, I spent several months in Africa. Being born in Poland, I saw a world distinctly different from mine. I saw an exotic world whose culture I didn't understand, and in which I could not communicate. I felt lost. I did not want to experience this feeling ever again, and that is why I studied foreign languages and became a teacher. I empathize with my students. I strive to engage them to master the language and understand cultural aspects necessary for them to be successful. Conversational skills foster communication and success. I have been there. Having traveled to 17 foreign countries myself, I have experienced a variety of cultures. Being able to communicate with local people made my trips enjoyable and rich in experiences. My teaching philosophy has always been to make students independent learners. I believe they need to be self-reliant to be successful. I design challenging but fun activities to engage them. I want students to know that the time they spend with me in class is not wasted. Student evaluations I have received show that students appreciate that commitment. For example, “Ms. Harrison teaches in a very interesting way. I have learned a lot;” ”Please keep interesting classes in the future!” “Mrs. Harrison is very interesting and responsible.
