Work included development of Construction Management Plans, scheduling, budget management, contractor management, design & document review, training and commissioning handover.

Appointed by Austral Bricks Group GM to rescue a Plant in crisis. Applied Six Sigma principles to identify critical site challenges and created problem-solving teams using critical thinking techniques to present solutions. Rapid improvements in the many quality and reliability issues stimulated morale and self-belief, whilst returning business profitability. Collaboration between production, maintenance, and sales teams, was instrumental in restoring business confidence and provided the platform of sustainable growth to transform a business from break even to a $5M p.a. in just under 12 months.

At the request of the new NSW General Manager, I undertook a role as the State WHS Compliance Manager. In this position, I developed an injury reduction program which was piloted at Bowral Bricks, whilst completing the Certificate IV in WHS; initiated the NSW SafeWork “Register a Promise” program to the five NSW Austral Bricks sites, and produced a 12-week Toolbox awareness program (distributed nationally).

Horsley Park, New South Wales, Australia

A face brick plant operating three shifts to produce 1m> bricks per week, Plant 21 had seen a historical Plant Manager turnover of less than three years. With decisive leadership and determination to succeed, I took the business from an annual gross profit of $1.5m in 2009, to $8.2m in 2015, with a 43% increase in output. This was achieved via improvements to the drying and firing processes. A 21% increase in selling price was achieved with development of a modern range of flat set products while holding manufacturing costs to a low 4.3% increase against a CPI increase of 14.2%. These achievements were not attained at the expense of safety, with compliance to the Brickworks safety Management System lifting from 65% to 90%>, and boasting an LTI free count well over 2,000 days.

Riverview, Queensland

Riverview is a fast-fire brick plant producing face product for local and New Zealand markets. During my time here, packaging rates lifted by 15% and kiln push by 11%, resulting in a decrease of 6% to the brick manufacturing cost.

Horsley Park, New South Wales, Australia

Plant 23 is Australia’s largest brick plant, producing more than 2.5m bricks | week. I also undertook various projects as directed by the NSW Operations Manager, including implementation of the Bowral Environmental System and development of quality control tools for the Austral Bricks Quality System.

Punchbowl, New South Wales, Australia

Reporting to the Works Manager, this position required the supervision of all manufacturing and maintenance to operate a plant that produces fired clay products 24/7, 365 days a year. In this role, I introduced a culture of continuous improvement to the plant maintenance team and implemented a regime of preventative maintenance. Kiln call-outs were reduced from 100 in 2004 to 24 in 2005, leading to higher Kiln up-time,. There was an increase in m2 fired, and a lifting of 1st quality product from 88% to 96%.Increased morale accompanied by a fresher, more enjoyable workplace.

In this position, I developed new business opportunities through successful design and implementation of turnkey systems, developed and presented sales strategies to increase market presence and sales revenue – (2003 target $900k, documented and reported costs on all project installations, and managed project implementation.

My primary requirement was a working knowledge of SCADA, PLC’s, HMI’s, VSD’s and Servo control. In this role, I provided technical support to assist customers with product applications, performed training courses for the PLC and HMI products, and managed and developed corporate and key accounts.

Lincoln Electric offer services including welding and cutting, filler metals, automation, weld fume control and safety and PPE needs. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this position involved the supervision of all maintenance performed in the Welding Machine Manufacturing Division (Plant 1). This role required responding to the immediate needs of eight production departments. Here, I managed project work and upgrades to plant equipment, managed all maintenance carried out within Plant 1 (direct control – four tradespeople, indirectly 20 tradespeople), assisted production departments with machine performance and process optimisation, reported on months’ activities and performance based KPI measures, and provided detailed programs for major works.
