The Senior Compliance Engineer – O&P serves as a staff member in the Compliance Department of SERC Reliability Corporation and will be a team participant in the implementation of the Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement Program (CMEP) for the Reliability Standards as approved by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the North American Reliability Coordinating Corporation (NERC). The Senior Compliance Engineer – O&P is a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the assessment of risk for the bulk power system of Registered Entities with a focus on Operations and Planning (O&P) Standards, including evaluation of entity internal controls to provide guidance for compliance monitoring activities. This position is also heavily involved in mitigation plan assessment and assessment of risk for reported possible violations of the NERC Standards.

The FRCC Risk Assessment and Mitigation Specialist/Engineer – O&P and CIP serves as a staff member in the Compliance Department of Florida Reliability Coordinating Council (FRCC) and will be a team participant in the implementation of the Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement Program (CMEP) for the Reliability Standards as approved by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the North American Reliability Coordinating Corporation (NERC). The Risk Assessment and Mitigation Specialist/Engineer – O&P and CIP is a staff expert in the assessment of risk for the bulk power system of Registered Entities with a focus on Operations and Planning (O&P) and Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Standards, including evaluation of entity internal controls to provide guidance for compliance monitoring activities. This position is also heavily involved in mitigation plan assessment and assessment of risk for reported possible violations of the NERC Standards.

In this role, Miles was responsible for Grid Management, Outage Management and Routine Work and provided leadership, strategic direction, and coaching for the Distribution Control Center. This position plays a key role related to storm management and outage restoration providing coordination, decision making and overall leadership while maintaining the safety of field operating personnel, contract line personnel and the general public. Key interfaces exist with distribution field leadership and the grid modernization team. Overall scope of responsibility is for a service territory serving approximately 1.6 - 4 million customers.

The Transmission Maintenance North Florida Area (NFTA) spreads out across 25 Florida counties. We are responsible for Duke Energy-Florida’s transmission facilities comprising of Vegetation Management, Transmission Line Maintenance, and Substation Maintenance. We are responsible for the line and right-of-way vegetation maintenance of sixty-two percent (62%) of Duke Energy’s transmission lines in the voltage classes of 500kV, 230KV, 115KV, and 69KV voltage. There are 2,843 miles of line: 104 miles of 500kV, 891 miles of 230KV line, 515 miles of 115KV line, and 1,333 miles of 69KV line. We provide wholesale delivery points to 8 SECI cooperative customers, 6 municipalities, 279,000 wholesale and 583,000 retail customers.Our organization is headquartered in Wildwood, Florida with a satellite office in Monticello, FL. The Transmission Line Maintenance crews are located in Crawfordville, Wilcox, and Wildwood. The Substation Maintenance crews are located in Crystal River, High Springs, Monticello, Ocala, Odena, Suwannee, and Wildwood. In addition, NFTA is responsible for the maintenance of transmission, distribution and generation assets at 166 electrical substation facilities, as well as the Crystal River, and Suwannee generation sites. The Crystal River Plant Site is the single largest generation site in the Southeast United States producing in excess of 3400 megawatts of electricity. It is the sole generating 500KV site in the Duke Energy Florida System. Crystal River houses 5 power plants: a nuclear plant and 4 fossil plants. The Suwannee generation site consists of 3 steam units and 3 combustion turbine units, outputting a maximum of 347 megawatts of electricity.

Responsible for and provides oversight for the real-time operation of Progress Energy’s Bulk Electric System. This includes leading and managing a staff of approximately 30 employees to ensure the Bulk Electric System is operated in a safe, reliable, economical, and environmentally responsible manner that achieves full compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements
