My responsibilities as Head of Section include:- The identification of campaign requirements (scientific, technical and programmatic) in consultation scientists, ESA project teams and satellite mission managers- Management of the year campaign activity plan including costing, allocation of human resources and responsibilities, monitoring of implementation and reporting of activities to ESA member states via their national delegations- The implementation of specific campaign activities including contractual arrangements, elaboration of experiment plans, monitoring of campaign execution, coordination of fieldwork and review of the campaign reporting.- International collaboration in field measurement campaigns supporting satellite calibration/validation and airborne science and remote sensing. This includes managing an active collaboration with national programmes in ESA member states and active collaboration with NASA and other space agencies.In addition to scientific campaigns, I'm responsible for mission science activities in support of Earth Observation radar missions. These include:- Sentinel-1 mission scientist; responsibilities include running the Sentinel-1 advisory group, managing support studies, monitoring end-to-end compliance of the performance with mission requirements, monitoring of the evolution of user requirements (GSEs, EU Fasttrack), maintenance of the mission requirements document and participation in formal project reviews. - Technical support to future Earth Observation SAR mission concepts such as BIOMASS and small SAR missions (e.g. companion satellite to SAOCOM 1B)

Research fellow at Centre d’Etudes Spatiales de la Biosphère (CESBIO)Main responsibility was to conduct scientific research in the context of European radar remote sensing projects. My tasks included - project management for several EU and ESA research projects- scientific research and remote sensing applications The scientific research and applications work focused on investigating advanced radar techniques using spaceborne SAR systems for thematic applications such as the mapping of vegetation land-use classes or the retrieval of soil moisture information. - supervision of DEA (Diplôme d'Etudes Approfondies) theses and organising remote sensing seminars for university students.

Bonn Area, Germany

My responsibilities included both PhD research and project co-ordination work in the context of a large international project SIR-C/X-SAR. Goals of the project were to assess and quantify the potential of multi-frequency multi-polarisation radar systems for agricultural remote sensing applications and general land-use classification. My main tasks were:- to plan and co-ordinate in-situ measurement campaigns carried out in southern Germany and in northern and southern Italy during the 1994 Shuttle missions, in conjunction with partner agronomy institutes in Milan and Bari- to process and analyse the multi-frequency polarimetric data sets in conjunction with in-situ data- to develop and test classification methodologies adapted to polarimetric data such as Maximum Polarimetric Contrast classification or hierarchical schemes that exploit inter-polarisation coherence and phase information as well as backscatter values.- to assess the potential of multi-parameter SAR systems in terms of crop classification results and in terms of the sensitivity of multi-frequency multi-polarisation radar signatures to crop status. - to prepare technical reports detailing the results for the German Space Agency (DARA now DLR).
