Role at Bonham & Brook is to ensure compliance with HMRC's R&D Tax Relief Scheme. Continue with advice to colleagues & clients on the best ways to to reasonably maximise claims to R&D Tax Relief. Ensuring that Bonham & Brook are fully aware of any First Tier Tribunal & Tax Cases that impact on R&D Tax Relief, but robustly use them to client's advantage. Review claims to ensure they are reasonable & within the R&D legislation. Training new & existing colleagues to ensure they are aware of legislation, available costs & the BEIS Guidelines, to ensure we only submit quality claims

Providing advice to colleagues, clients, accountants etc on HMRC view (in particular) of a range of taxes, particularly on CT & Employer Compliance, but also CG & SA.Quality Assurance-all Forrestbrown R&D claims cross my desk for review from HMRC perspective. Whole case accounts review, to highlight any R & D & non-R&D risks and resolution/explanation, to reduce risk of HMRC enquiry.Presentations to Accountants & companies. Acting as a supporting point of approachable & positive expertise, initially on R&D claims and, subsequently, RDEC (ATL) claims. Meeting both potential and existing clients and their accountants. Creating new business-particularly in untapped geographical areas, business sectors, accountancy contacts, trade associations etc. Improving processes. To assist in achieving 'low-risk' status for ForrestBrown R&D Claims. This approach has numerous benefits-obviously for ForrestBrown and their clients, but also for HMRC, as it allows them to concentrate on 'riskier' claims. Liaise with HMRC on what they want from R&D claims and updates for any changes in legislation and/or approaches.

Since November 2006, Tax Specialist on I & R Unit (formerly R & D). Advising accountants, R & D specialists and companies on Government Incentives & Reliefs for companies-particularly R & D relief and tax credits. Numerous inquiry and enabling activities on many individual and group R & D claims. Acting as an R & D consultant for other HMRC colleagues. Presentations at external events e.g. Business Advice Open Days and internal events e.g. I & R conferences. Previous HMRC experience on Employer Compliance, Benefits & Expenses, Self Assessment, Capital Gains Tax, PAYE, Internal Audit and secondment to HMRC head office to deal with PQ's and MP queries
