A seasoned professional with over thirty years' experience in programming and analysis, covering a very wide range of user applications, across the whole development lifecycle and on a variety of platforms. Although, I've been using Oracle DB for almost the past 5 years, I've knowledge of other databases and BI tools such as Teradata Cognos and MS SQL Server.I've had a varied career in a wide range of IT and business related areas, which has given me many opportunities to develop systems and provide solutions where changing a persons perspective was as important as the technology involved. I've seen how customers have had the vision to bring previously unrelated functions together to interact and provide an insight that impacts upon business performance. I then provided the IT changes that implemented those flashes of insight. I've also made changes to processes that make those processes more efficient and quicker giving the end users a better experience of the human / machine interface.Although, I have experience of various industry sectors including, Financial, Wholesale, Manufacturing, Retail, Logistics and Distribution, my approach is to trust the business experts and only question their methods to gain a better understanding of the requirements. Sometimes this has helped them refine a point that was assumed straight forward. Working as partners to produce a solution focused with the needs and benefits for the business being the primary driver.I believe the systems I've provided are the most efficient and accurate that could be created under the circumstances, using the standards and methodologies that were in place at the time. I try to be flexible with the people I'm working with, understanding their situation and at the same time trying to explain any technical constraints.System analysis, software developmentBusiness requirements analysis and system/program designApplication lifecycle management including implementation supportData and system migration/conversion including reverse engineeringStaff mentoring and development

Supporting Manhattan WMS across 14 warehouses that are connected to database servers in Rochdale and Salford. As well as distributing to stores, stock is transferred between warehouses. There are many satellite systems such as Chainstores used for ordering from suppliers and distributing to stores; Vocollect that connects the voice and scanner equipment used in stock movement; Soti and Voiceman used to control the policies and check the performance of those devices; Oracle databases used as a repository of all the information; Cognos (SCI) - used for both operational reports - such as check lists - and MI for stock forecasts. Tested and implemented changes when the business wanted to try a new way of working, as well as trouble shooting when things went wrong.Query the data to find anomalies and root causes of repeated software problems.I have taken a keen interest in developing my knowledge of Agile working, and at moment I am also doing a course on Azure.

Senior Analyst / DeveloperGus Plc May 2001 - May 2003Ardwick, ManchesterDesigned and implemented the Relaxco database (on Teradata), a holiday booking system (with Lunn Poly). Customers could pay for holidays with credit on a catalogue style account, after they had been credit checked (by Scorex) against data that was extracted from the Data Warehouse. This database was then used by finance, credit and marketing departments of GUS.As a member of the MIS team, worked on the Data Warehouse and loaded, updated and extracted data for all sorts of systems, including CRM and Data Protection Act. That work has involved correcting feeds that were flawed; tracing back processes to provide users with exact definitions of fields; converting weekly feeds to daily feeds and vice versa.Used COBOL, VSAM, JCL, SQL, BTEQ, MultiLoad, FastLoad Export and Queryman on IBM Mainframe (OS/390) and PC’s (Windows/Server). At the same time co-ordinating the support of GGF systems with some hands on hardware, MS Networks and application maintenance. -
Senior Analyst / DeveloperGeneral Guaratee Finance (Ggf) Nov 1997 - May 2001Ardwick , ManchesterImplemented the migration of legacy financial systems from the IBM OS/390 to a new third-party software system based on an NT network. A key part of this project revolved around the need to reverse-engineer the system from an IBM mainframe environment using ROSCOE / TSO; most of the legacy source code was either not available or was poorly structured with little or no documentation. This involved tracing the path of information that came into the system via a CICS data entry process; then processed in batch, updating various auxiliary systems, some within GGF on other platforms and some to third party business partners – such as insurance carriers. As the senior IBM person on the project, was responsible for all the batch work scheduling, changes to COBOL / CICS, JCL, VSAM file maintenance and co-ordinated all the resources necessary to keep the system running. -
