Transformation Program Management

An executive role indirectly leading 80 PMs, my mandate is to establish and maintain best practice planning, controls and processes across multiple enterprise-wide projects. I provide support for all acquisition, sustainment and internal projects to ensure that schedule, budget and earned value management targets are achieved, shaping project frameworks to drive alignment with strategic priorities. By regularly engaging with project managers to understand project issues and business challenges, I guide the project management community whilst building leadership capabilities and indirectly driving project portfolio success. • Uplifted resource management capabilities and effectively integrated performance management and reporting across a multibillion dollar project portfolio, making data accessible to improve decision making;• Supported business diversification through the planning and mobilisation of projects in adjacent markets, turning around project performance in subsidiary teams to enable significant growth; • Competently developed and delivered an integrated workforce planning system to manage 1200+ resources across different business areas and locations, adding value and governance oversight.

Taking on a sizeable Integrated Communication Systems project (>$200 million) at late development stage, I was tasked with resolving a number of issues that threatened on time delivery. By systematically assessing project frameworks, I escalated critical issues and dealt with project problems head on to re-set project direction, schedule and milestones. Providing leadership to 20 direct reports and external resources, I forged strong relationships with contractors and internal and external stakeholders to resolve delivery issues and re-establish project baselines. • Successfully determined root causes and corrective actions to recover deliverables on a multimillion dollar project;• Effectively led a multidisciplinary team of 20, and numerous subcontractors across geographies, working in collaboration with HR to re-establish a high performing project team.

Tasked to ensure that technical, cost and schedule goals were achieved in accordance with contractual and company requirements, I delivered multiple concurrent projects for the ship class fleet. An ongoing aspect of this role was the requirement to build productive and influential relationships with key company and client stakeholders to enable effective negotiation and coordination of project resources across functions within a matrix organisation. I also led the development of proposals and contributed the operating model improvement initiatives through project management best practices. • Successfully leveraged team leadership, organisation and planning skills, taking responsibility to guide and elevate performance across multimillion dollar projects;• Secured Chairman’s Award nomination for integration of Lifecycle Management in an engineering sustainment program;• Developed a business unit level performance management framework and metrics to enable across the business view and facilitate behavioural changes;• Recovered and delivered numerous projects with cost and schedule requirements including an enhanced high speed data maritime terminal and a tactical intercom and secure voice subsystem replacement.

Accountable for leading a technical team in the specification and development of a marine observation network for detecting tsunami events in the Australian region, I managed the development of equipment specifications in addition to evaluating tender responses and testing approved designs for introduction into service. Taking a strategic lead, I collaborated with Chief Scientists and built the engineering team, providing direction to establish understanding of project approaches and transition processes and expertise. • Successfully delivered the Australian Tsunami Warning System’s sea level observation system from development to operation within timeframe, to detect tsunami events and enable timely decision-making for public safety alerts;• Built experience in the management and delivery of Government funded multimillion dollar contracts and effectively introduced Systems Engineering methodologies into a scientific based organisation;• Led the development and implementation of the organisation’s risk management processes, supporting the acquisition of complex technical projects.

Tasked with leading bidding and negotiation activities for prospective projects, I supported the growth and technical positioning of a start-up innovation company offering a comprehensive range of Defence and Security solutions. I led the re-development of the company’s image, communications and promotions in contribution to the strategic planning and delivery of business growth. I also provided leadership to the engineering team throughout design and development process and developed business cases and tender submissions to win new and innovative business. • Provided consultancy services on multimillion dollar projects for organisations such as Saab Systems and Honeywell Aerospace and Defence Services;• Developed and delivered the company quality system processes (ISO 9001).

Briefed with reducing manufacturing costs for core line products, I was responsible for managing the lifecycle of technological solutions from early stage conceptualisation to market. Building relationships with cross-disciplinary teams, I managed the full lifecycle of one off and volume products from concept to operational deployment. A significant aspect of this role was leading customer collaborations to define business issues and concepts, delivering robust solutions within short timeframes.• Successfully led technical teams through the design, development and deployment of a multimillion dollar mobile CCTV and passenger information systems for EDI Rail’s upgrade project;• Led the conceptualisation and deployment of a militarised vehicle condition monitoring system for the Australian Army, evolving to an in-vehicle digital recording system for Police forces.
