Uk - Gourock

Calmac Ferries operate a fleet of around 30 Passenger Ro-Ro ferries on the West Coast of Scotland. My duties and responsibilities as Marine Manager included:• Undertaking annual inspections of vessels • Liaising with technical and network managers with regard to the positioning and operation of vessels throughout the network • Ensuring that vessels comply with company operating manuals, work instructions and fleet circulars, and that vessels are provided with the correct documentation• Working closely with Flag State and Classification Societies • Carrying out performance appraisals of Senior Deck Officers • Dealing with shipboard disciplinary and grievance matters

Uk - Scottish Western Isles

My duties and responsibilities as Master of passenger ro-ro ferries included:• Safe navigation and ship handling of vessels operating to 15 ports on the west coast of Scotland without the services of a pilot, often in very restricted waters with severe wind & tidal conditions.• Overall responsibility for the safety of passengers, crew, and the vessel, and for the efficient operation of the vessel.• Implementation & adherence to the company management system, and ensuring that the crew are motivated to adhere to this system.• Ensuring compliance with all applicable national & local regulations & legislation.• Ensuring emergency preparedness of the crew, and operational readiness of vessels LSA & FFE.• Chairman of Onboard Management Team and Safety, Environmental & Security Committee.

Uk - Clydebank Office

I was employed in the technical management department of the Clydebank office. The vessels under my care included oil & chemical tankers, freight ro-ro carriers, and sail training vessels. My duties included:• Maintaining vessel ISM & ISPS accreditation, including conducting internal audits• Conducting pre-charter vessel inspections, and assisting with chartered vessel vetting inspections, on behalf of Stena Bulk• Attending delivery of newbuilds to assist with crew training & familiarisation, and preparations for ISM & ISPS audits• Participating in industry body safety seminars• Liaising with shipowners, charterers, classification societies, flag states, etc. to ensure client satisfaction and to meet performance objectives• Review of Accident & Incident reports• Creation and updating of SMS procedures• Co-ordinating delivery and change of flag surveys & documentation

I was employed in the technical management department of the Glasgow office. The vessels under my care included VLCCs, Suezmax tankers, Product tankers Bulk Carriers and LPG carriers. My responsibilities were similar to those at Northern Marine Management, with the following additional duties:• DPA & CSO duties for 10 vessels• Organising oil major vetting of the fleet, developing TMSA, and responding to any negative observations raised during inspections

North Sea - Uk Sector (Curlew Field)

I was employed by Maersk Contractors Ltd. on a 90,000dwt FPSO, my duties and responsibilities included:• Monitoring and operation of production & processing plant, including turret systems, separation plant & gas turbine compressors, power generation equipment, fire and safety systems, laboratory analysis equipment• Operation and maintenance of engine room systems, including boilers, diesel generators, steam and diesel cargo pumps, and all other auxiliary systems• Creation of production and marine reports• Ensuring compliance with Permit to Work systems, toolbox talks, etc.• Responsibility for the loading/discharging and ballasting/deballasting of the FPSO, and completion of all associated calculations and plans• Planning and co-ordinating maintenance of the marine plant in accordance with planned maintenance systems

I was employed by BP Shipping Ltd. on various types & sizes of tankers (LNG, VLCC, Suezmax, Product, Coastal, etc.), and was promoted through the ranks from Deck Cadet to Chief Officer. My duties and responsibilities in the rank of Chief Officer included:• Responsibility for deck and cargo operations on a 135,000m³ LNG carrier. • Management of deck crew & junior officers• Control and monitoring of all cargo related port operations, and all mooring and anchoring operations• Upkeep of deck machinery and fabric maintenance of the vessel in accordance with planned maintenance system
