Vertical Response, a social and email marketing company, was revamping its commerce platform. They asked me to review their internal information systems needs and develop a blueprint for maintaining and enhancing their ability to manage the company as they transitioned to the new platform.

WireCache is an Oracle database accelerator. I managed all marketing for the company.

Introduce into the US marketplace a new embedded database management system. Create a new category, demonstrate thought leadership through blogging and other means. Build sales and marketing organizations. Develop market analysis, competitive analysis, product positioning, collateral, sales tools and training. Generate analyst and press attention. Direct.

• Responsible for all aspects of marketing, member of the executive team, managing a worldwide marketing group of 6 with a budget of about $1.2M.
• Refocused the company onto new verticals, created the materials and tools needed to support those markets, supported sales in capturing new revenue streams
• Repositioned the product to ride a major industry trend, resulting in the ability to increase the product price by two orders of magnitude
• Supported $7M VC investment round
• Managed the company’s public presence through the web site, press and analysts. Trained the sales force
• Refocused engineering on rational three-year product plan, and improved product development predictability

Responsible for all aspects of marketing and product management from before first product ship up to company acquisition. Became part of Informix with the acquisition of Illustra in February 1996. Responsible for marketing the acquired product.• Positioned and presented the Informix/Illustra merger to industry and financial analysts in such a way that the stock price rose by 20% and Oracle and IBM were forced to build catch-up products• All outbound marketing for the Informix.
