About Malcolm Young

I've stepped back from my career-long work in criminal justice, corrections and sentencing reform. I've been working on a few immigration cases, but that activity has given way to work with eight other Amherst College classmates (Class of 1968) to promote climate-friendly actions by our college and climate policies at the local, state and national level. In this regard please see our website at https://bit.ly/3WDbiyh And this work has naturally carried us into this fall's electoral politics, to which I am now devoting most of my time, again as a volunteer engaged with several advocacy groups. Personally, I've been able to travel with family and spouse to several destinations in Europe, sail in Buzzards Bay, and spend time with grand kids. Very fortunate indeed, so far. An expert in sentencing and the criminal process, advocate for justice reform and innovative, effective reentry programs, I have tried to bring real change to a severely dysfunctional system. My most recent efforts in this area led to an analysis and to a solid set of recommendations for reform of the District of Columbia's parole system, currently under the control of the United States Parole Commission. I was pleased to be a part of a team of low-ego, high-energy advocates. Together we produced a proposal for an innovative, problem-solving approach to parole grants and to revocations for violation of conditions of release.
