Malcolm Garrett is Creative Director of Images&Co, a communications design consultancy based in London, UK. He is co-founder of the annual Design Manchester festival.He is noted for design innovation and collaboration, and his commitment to design education. He is a Visiting Professor at Central St Martins, London, and a former Visiting Professor at the Royal College of Art. He is Chairman of the Sir Misha Black Awards Committee, the only awards anywhere in the world to recognise excellence and innovation in design education. Malcolm has a global reputation for his influence on graphic design and popular culture, both through his landmark designs for clients including Buzzcocks, Duran Duran, Boy George, Simple Minds and Peter Gabriel, and through his pioneering role in championing interaction and digital communications since the early 1990s. He refers to his work as grpahic designer as ‘connected communications’. In 1994 he established one of the first digital agencies in London’s Shoreditch, and in 2000, he became the first “new media” designer appointed to the prestigious Faculty of Royal Designers for Industry at the RSA. In November 2013, Malcolm Garrett was elected Master of the Faculty of Royal Designers. He is a Fellow of the International Society of Typographic Designers (FISTD) and holds honorary Doctorates of Design from Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, University of the Arts London, and London South Bank University. He is a member of the Eye Magazine Editorial Board; a founder member of the 5D World Builders at University of Southern California; a former member of the BAFTA Interactive Entertainments Committee; and in 2023 became a founder member of The Songwriting Organisation UK, pioneering therapeutic songwriting.In 2015 he was one of the first ten designers to be inducted into the inaugural Design Week Hall of Fame. In 2016 he was named one of fifty Creative Leaders by Creative Review.In 2020 he was awarded an MBE for 'services to design'.
