Capacity-building: Completing a skills and capacity needs assessment, mentoring sessions with experts on research, photography, written communication and advocacy, and attending Amnesty Academy training courses.Research and documentation: Documentation and writing of research papers on migrant experiences abroad; papers on migrant rights and international law research, among other projects. I also followed up on cases of migrant workers in distress in the Gulf and leveraged Amnesty International Kenya’s and HAKI Africa’s contacts to try and fight for justice, facilitate repatriation, and establish dialogue with Kenyan Embassy officials in the GCC.Public education and advocacy: Training in curation and hosting of photo exhibitions, writing opinion editorials, and generally, raising awareness on the multitude of challenges migrant workers face in the Gulf.Carrying out any activities as reasonably assigned.

Blogger – I wrote blogs for a number of websites, most notably MigrantRights.Org and Medium.com documenting a variety of topics plaguing migrant workers.Researcher – As a migrant worker, I had the access to discreetly conduct research on various issues like living conditions, working conditions, wages, labour reforms, and discrimination.Content Creator – Through my Instagram and Twitter accounts (@noaharticulates) I created content related to our lived experiences as migrant workers and how virtually all formal avenues of justice failed us.Activist – I spoke up on our condition, suggested ways to improve said conditions, and got to effect change in some areas. (I did get arrested eventually, despite using an anonymous account, and spent a month in solitary confinement but fortunately, civil society campaigned ferociously for my release.)
