Telecommunications Practice Cto
I lead IBM's telecommunications management consulting practice in finding and implementing with clients the new platforms that will help them transform their business, networks and IT.
Business Solutions Executive
In 2005 I joined IBM Global Business Services to build our Operational Support Systems (OSS) practice. I led the sale and delivery of a number of key early engagements in 2005 and 2006 in the UK, Russia and also in South Africa with Wilhelm Krige's great team at Telekom South Africa and Amdocs. In 2007 and 2008 I worked in Russia building up our telecommunications solutions business with Nikolai Isakov and Oleg Byakhov and in 2009 returned to the UK becoming an Associate Partner. Between 2009 and 2011 I worked on a wide range of client engagements but my main focus was on developing IBM's network transformation business and leading the development of our Mobile Cloud Computing platform which along with Zygmunt Lozinski and Brian Naughton of IBM, I invented some key aspects of.
Telecommunication Solution Executive
In 2002 I joined IBM's telecommunications industry team and became responsible for our solutions business development. I worked closely with partners like Siebel to develop our CRM solution and grew our EMEA business by 250%. In 2003 I designed and led the rollout and sales of our operating cost optimisation solution globally and again grew our business. In 2004 I also led the sale and development of a new in-store SOA based retail solution for Vodafone.
Client Executive
After spending a great year working for BT as a consultant, I very fortunate to be offered a position as client manager on IBM's BT account team. I started by taking over BT Development Services and HR systems with Russell Price and his great team in Chesterfield. I then became responsible for BT Carrier Services and BT Enterprises, sold the first consulting engagement from IBM to BT, the first pSeries and SANs and led a wide range of engagements and sales campaigns across all their businesses. At the same time I graduated from IBM sales school and the IBM client executive programme.
Object Technology Consultant
In 1996 IBM set up the new Object Technology Practice and I was one of the first to join. I started by moving to Boulder, CO and developing our object modelling toolset. It was here I created self-defining models and their code generators. After this I led an engagement with Boots to develop their in-store pharmacist scheduling system, led an engagement with National Australia Group and their excellent chief architect Craig Paterson to develop an Internet Banking prototype and worked with Halifax on a new front office banking system. I was the worldwide manager for IBM's Java jumpstart programme where we trained IBM development teams in many countries on how to run their first Java engagements and build a business. In 1997 I became IBM UK's first certified eBusiness consultant and then in 1998 got my first introduction to telecommunications when I spent the year working with BT on their Internet projects for SMB, BT Enterprises, BT Carrier Services and man others.
It Specialist
I returned to IBM after university, leaving behind my PC business and went back to the COPS project I had been working on during my year out. After 4 months I transferred to Bristol and began to work on CROESO, my first client engagement. CROESO was the replacement customer care and billing system for the SWEB and SWALEC utility companies which became CSS for Southern Electric and at one point IBM's largest client/server development. I joined the frameworks team developing reusable UI and client/server interaction Smalltalk code for the 50 client interface developers. I helped to train new developers in the system, became the lead framework architect and started consulting on other engagements. In 1995 the project moved to Hursley and I started working with IBM's VisualAge Smalltalk development team in Raleigh.
Industrial Trainee
Between my 2nd and 3rd years at University I worked for IBM to gain experience before completing my degree. I was trained in PL/1, IMS, JCL, TSO etc. and worked on CIAS release 4 fixing APARs for 4 months. Then I was transferred to the COPS project and worked as a UI developer using Smalltalk and Windows 95 as part of a great team managed by Lesley Bates.
