I served in the Central Intelligence Agency as a case officer in the China Operations Branch of East Asia Division, and as a reserve officer in the CIA’s Special Operations Group, on assignment for a time during the Reagan years with Delta Force in Central America.In addition to work in the field, I completed the Chinese Language and Area Studies School (CLASS), part of the U.S. Department of State's Foreign Service Institute (FSI), and qualified as a Chinese Language Officer. I also served as an officer on the Intelligence Community Staff, headed by the Director of Central Intelligence. At all times, I held Top Secret/Codeword clearances.
