A skilled operations, health and safety, and events professional, with experience working in both the charity/heritage and higher education sectors. Currently undertaking a year-long secondment as a Health & Safety Officer in the Facilities Directorate (FD) at the University of Leeds (UoL) to further improve my knowledge and skills. I have just sat my NEBOSH National General Certificate exam, pending results (Oct/Nov 2024).Alongside my substantive post, I sit on a Staff Assistance Fund panel, assessing cases for the allocation of financial support to colleagues in financial emergencies. I am a Health & Wellbeing Champion for my team, acting as a knowledge holder for the support available to colleagues, be it counselling, wellness activities such as walking and running groups, staff benefits, occupational health, or simply as a person willing to listen and support at time of need. Lastly, I am a deputy working group lead for the Engagement strand of the UoL FD People & Culture strategy. Having initially helped to develop the strategy, which forms a key part of the business plan, my role is now to facilitate the delivery of how the FD can improve the way in which it engages with those that work within it. The aim is to improve the culture of the FD by working with colleagues across all areas of the organisation to better communicate and actively listen in a way which will work most effectively for them, and enable them to feel both seen and heard.Outside of the day job, in the evenings and on weekends, I take regular work as a guitarist, singer, and songwriter and you’ll likely find me gigging with the Liam Ward Band, the Ward & Thorne acoustic duo, the Jake Leg Jug Band, Jim Cemlyn-Jones, and country artist Taynee Lord all across the UK.Please reach out and connect if you want to know more about me, I’m always up for a chat!
