Apart from Mal's consulting work, over the last 18 months, Mal has been Program Director for Smart Conference 2013, Australia's largest supply chain and logistics conference. He has organised over 80 speakers, across 13 subject streams and 70 sessions for the 2013 conference. While working closely with the Smart Conference Board and Committee, he has played an active part in ensuring that Smart Conference maintains its record as the region's most attended conference of the year, for instructional learning, debates, networking, and career progression.

Mal represented the Logistics Association of Australia on the Smart Conference Board. In this capacity he worked with the Board to manage Smart Conferences, and related activities and finances.

Sydney

Mal worked at DHL in Solutions Design where he developed many and varied logistics solutions for clients in healthcare, automotive, electronics and gaming industries. Due to his experience in gaming, he took on the management of the Aristocrat account which included DHL logistics operations in Sydney, Macau, and Los Angeles. This work entailed setting up Vendor Managed Inventory hubs as part of Aristocrat's postponement logistics strategy. Mal left DHL to join Logistics Bureau.

Nsw And National

Mal was NSW President and Director of the Logistics Association of Australia (LAA) for three years and National President for two years. During this time he was instrumental in making the LAA more relevant to Supply Chain and Logistics Professionals by providing a wide range of member benefits, networking and activities. He worked with the committee to introduce a number of new initiatives including Industry Research projects and scholarships for post graduate study.

Mal worked as a Senior Manager at Deloitte in their supply chain practice. His assignments included cash handling supply chain design for a national security firm and logistics work for Deloitte's ERP practice.

Mal worked in Supply Chain and Logistics consulting performing assignments in transport network planning and warehousing operation and design.Work entailed many projects across FMCG, white goods, agriculture, consumer durable, 3PL and manufacturing industries. Projects included Australian and off shore projects.

During Mal's early career with Dematic (Colby) he designed, and project managed many materials handling systems in Australia and Asia, encompassing all modes of racking, conveyors, stacker cranes, hanging garment systems, flat pack, and other types of materials handling equipment.Part of his role was to consult with clients, perform analysis on their behalf and then to conceive the most appropriate materials system for their needs.
