Project Manager
AMC is a real estate development and project management firm located in Vancouver, British Columbia. Over the past two decades, AMC has been integral in the development of some of BC's most unique and well-recognized projects, such as the Parq Resort, Revelstoke Mountain Resort, and 8X on the Park.In my role at AMC, I was primarily focused on residential and mixed-use (commercial and residential) projects, providing project and development management services throughout the entire project cycle - ranging from pre-construction estimating right through to client delivery and deficiency management.Throughout my tenure at AMC, I assumed a leadership role overseeing a luxury residential project in Creekside at Whistler. Alongside this, I honed my consultant management skills by contributing to a significant 300-acre land development endeavor. Moreover, I enhanced my communication and design management abilities through hands-on collaboration with both the client, consultants, and general contractor on an impressive 82-unit residential project.
Project Coordinator
Broccolini is a real estate development and construction management firm in Eastern Canada known for its strong values and ability to deliver ambitious construction projects at record-breaking speeds. Worked on a 1.3 million-square-foot distribution center for a very well-known e-commerce company. The project from start to finish will had a duration of 12 months, meaning challenging deadlines were a constant.Member of a two-person team that managed the civil and exterior scope. Acted as the liaison between the architects, engineers, subcontractors, and the client, facilitating solution-oriented interdisciplinary meetings with numerous organizations on a weekly basis, communicating site progress and addressing concerns.A large part of my role was bringing together numerous stakeholders to solve problems that involve multiple companies/organizations. I used my engineering background to accurately define the problem and understand the various constraints/concerns that the designers/client may have, and use my project management experience to develop and execute a roadmap to solve the issue.
Co-Founder
What does a lawyer, a newly graduated civil engineer, and a building engineering student do with unanticipated free time during a global pandemic? We use our various skills to build custom sheds. Sound like a goofy organization eh? But hey, it kept me and my friends busy during a pandemic. I was responsible for project management (i.e. cost & estimating, time & resource management). Maintained detailed records of our progress to better forecast the time and cost of future projects.
Director Of Logistics - Queen'S Concrete Toboggan
The Queen’s Concrete Toboggan Design Team works throughout the year to design and construct a toboggan which is taken to compete in the Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race. The team is comprised of 90 engineering students from various disciplines. As Director of Logistics, I am responsible for various administrative aspects of the design team. I oversee fundraising events, grant applications, recruitment efforts, logistics of getting equipment and students to and from the competition.
Director Of Finance - Queen'S Bridge Building Team
I lowered individual membership costs by 10%, saw a 21% increase in fundraising revenue, and made costly equipment purchases while operating a surplus budget. Under my leadership in 2019, our team won the 'Most Innovative Bridge Design' award. We did not settle for just building what the professors told us to – we invented a net new design that incorporated data collected from a research initiative that I started. Building off of research from last year, I am overseeing three sub-team research projects that look into three material properties of competition building materials including; (i) bending moment resistance of glulam members, (ii) tensile strength of angled cuts to individual members and (iii) the tensile strength of braided tooth floss cables.
Project Manager - Queen'S Bridge Building Team
The Queen’s Bridge Building Team (QBBT) is a multi-disciplinary engineering design team that designs and builds 5 bridges that have a clear span of 1 m using popsicle sticks, glue and tooth floss to compete at an engineering design competition. I wasn't able to find the material properties of CLT or glulam popsicle stick members so I reached out to a structural engineering professor to ask for help in developing and executing lab tests that would yield the tensile and compressive strength of both types of assembly method.Because of the incorporation of the research we conducted into our design, we designed and built a bridge that was able to withstand a concentrated load of 836 kg at the center of the bridge deck which won us the award for 'Most Innovative Design'.
Structural Engineering Intern
Nordic Structures is a mass timber engineering firm dedicated to changing the materials we use to construct buildings. The firm has worked on some of North America’s most prominent wooden structures in the past including Origine, a 13-story mass timber building in Quebec. At Nordic, I was responsible for developing new and updating old calculation tools that conform Canadian, American and European design codes and standards. I quickly learned to navigate various texts to implement concepts in the tools I worked on. Maximized Excel’s functions while developing organized and easy-to-follow calculation spreadsheets that were used to increase the efficiency of senior engineers by minimizing time spent determining codified procedures and doing hand calculations. I taught myself how to use a Dlubal RFEM, a 3D finite element modelling software used for structural analysis.I took the lead on the structural design of a mass timber modular addition to a school in northern Quebec. This design has been praised by the ministry of education and Quebec media for providing a warm, environmentally friendly and affordable solution that allows schools to meet urgent infrastructure needs.
Mathematics Tutor
I provided academic support to an Indigenous student in engineering with weekly tutoring sessions. I was hired by the Queen's University Aboriginal Access to Engineering Program and gave lessons related to statistics and ordinary differential equations.
Construction Coordinator
I learned to communicate effectively and work hand-in-hand with trades workers. Assisted in planning, and personally delivered on demolition, drywall, framing & masonry work. Gained an understanding of how trade workers approach construction and what constraints may not typically be considered by designers.
Head Coach And Program Director
Sargent's Bay Yacht Club is a sailing club located on beautiful lake Memphremagog in Austin, Quebec. The camp provides sailing lessons to 30-40 children a week throughout the summer. Additionally, the camp has a competitive sailing program that travels around Eastern Canada competing at sailing regattas. The camp has no running water, no road access and no electricity. But the kids love it and so did I!As Program Director, I managed a staff of six coaches and was responsible for all aspects of the sailing club. I oversaw multi-year capital renewal program that more than doubled the number of sailboats in operating condition. I developed a proposal for a capital purchase of a dock system that would cost $35,000. I was given approval by the board of directors and hired a dock supplier/installer. I used the docks as a base to build a new sailboat storage system that was responsible for significantly lowering maintenance costs of the sailboat fleet. Despite a previous downwards trend in enrollment, I was saw a 36% increase in camper registration over the course of my three year-tenure. I focused my attention on fostering a positive and fun environment while using my technical skills to improve operating practices and minimize safety concerns.
