As Consultant to the OHCHR, prepared a report for the UN Special Rapporteur on the challenges facing the right to food in China. The report included a description of inter alia vulnerable groups at risk of food insecurity, support schemes benefiting farmers, social policies benefiting the poorest segments of the population, situation of land rights in China and the debate on land reform, main trends in agricultural production and the impacts of climate change.

Developed and managed portfolio of Sida contributions under the Special Initiative for Democratisation and Freedom of Expression. The purpose of this initiative is to support actors for change working for democratisation and freedom of expression in repressive environments. As Programme Manager, responsible for all internal and external communications related to the Special Initiative and member of Sida working group on the development of methods for results management in human rights and democratisation programming.

In 2001, established RWI’s first field office abroad in Beijing. As Head of Office, charged with the management, planning, implementation and follow-up of RWI’s human rights capacity development programme in China. Key responsibilities included:Identifying new projects, formulating proposals and agreements with partner institutions (mainly government authorities, universities and non-governmental organisations), assessing and monitoring project results and report writing, and coordinating with donors, international organisations and other relevant actors. Developing and strengthening RWI’s China Programme in close cooperation with Chinese partner institutions, Sida, the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Danish and Norwegian human rights institutes, international organisations and other relevant actors. Participating actively in bilateral and multilateral forums and providing briefings and advice on human rights to visiting delegations and organisations. Maintaining constructive dialogues with a broad range of actors, including the media.

Prepared a project document for Human Rights Technical Assistance in China under the OHCHR-PRC 2006-2008 Memorandum of Understanding.

Conducted “Human Rights Review” of UNDP China’s country programme. Developed strategy and action plan to integrate a human rights-based approach in the programme.

Responsible for planning, implementation and follow-up of projects in China.

Surveyed and wrote a report on human rights education at Chinese universities.

As Co-founder, set up and headed a company providing Swedish newspapers and magazines with analytical articles on China.

Translated and interpreted (Swedish, Chinese, English) for a theatre collaboration involving four theatre groups in Sweden, China, India and Mozambique.
