Manage corporate partnership development for the Climate Corps Fellowship program. Climate Corps places 100-to-150 outstanding graduate school students in companies, public institutions, and local governments that are committed to meeting clean energy and climate goals. Fellows spend the summer designing tools and recommendations to reduce organizations’ energy consumption, procure renewable energy, electrify fleets, and engage suppliers on emissions reduction strategies.At the end of the summer, fellows join the Climate Corps network of over 3,000 professionals, which Climate Corps engages by supporting their career growth, facilitating networking and mentorship, and fostering environmental advocacy, entrepreneurship, and sustainability leadership.

Guide grant strategy and execution for a 2-year grant on strategic retreat as a climate adaptation solution. Support an interdisciplinary team of graduate students, faculty, and conservation professionals across institutions and geographies to develop workshops and outreach including reports, policy memos, and publications.

Working with farmers, agroecology experts, scientists, and local community members, I developed a master plan for the Cascade Farm and Ranch Regenerator, a new and unique program to be housed on 418 acres of coastal agricultural land in San Mateo County, California. The Regenerator, which will launch in the spring of 2020, is a unique agroecological enterprise similar to a farm incubator in which multiple farmers with independent land-based businesses will collaborate as part of an integrated, property-wide organic and regenerative system. In addition to research, community partnership development, and programmatic visioning, I coordinated a team of researchers from UC Santa Cruz and the UC Reserve System to develop a 6-year scientific monitoring plan to measure the changes of this landscape over time. The transformation of Cascade Ranch from an extractive farm to a healthy working landscape presents a critical opportunity to research and model how the implementation of regenerative practices can enhance and heal community, environment, and climate.

Directly supervised team of six, managing all aspects of the BirdgeUp: STEM program, especially curriculum development. Increased student recruitment by 250%, developed new program to network third-year students with tech companies in NYC, and co-founded museum-wide Mentorship Circles Program for women and underrepresented groups. First author of journal article in Ecological Applications (2018).

Inaugural cohort. Researcher at the Center for Biodiversity and Conservation. Developed novel model protocol (Maxent, R) to create ecological niche model to determine impacts of climate change on viability of taro, a Hawaiian food staple crop. Taught programming (R, Python) and its applications to natural science to young women from across New York City.

Used ocean mapping software (Fledermaus, FM Midwater, Caris) and multibeam sonar data to discover, visualize, and research presence of methane seeps along the U.S. Continental Margin. Co-authored manuscript on the resulting findings; Skarke et al., 2014 (see attached). Awarded Outstanding Student Poster Award at the AGU Fall 2013 Meeting.

Anchorage, Alaska

Set up dust monitoring equipment to monitor ambient air quality near Anchorage and in native villages above the Arctic Circle. Trained local site operators in two native rural villages in Northwest Alaska, produced a report and materials to educate the public concerning fugitive dust emissions from unpaved roads in eight villages in Alaska’s Northwest Arctic Borough.
