Helping others has always been very important to me. For over 30 years, I taught dance and group exercise classes which, in turn, taught me a lot about the connection between our thinking, our spirituality and our health. In my own experience, for example, students would sometimes tell me after a class that they had come feeling ill, sad or worried, and after the class they felt great. I would experience this, too. And this took place often enough in my own life and that of my students that I felt something more was happening than just the endorphins kicking in. I came to the conclusion that a deeper mental change had occurred. But how? I reasoned that through our activity we were connecting with divine or higher qualities such as joy, love, grace, harmony and rhythm. And, this resulted in displacing the feelings of sadness, sickness, worry and so on. These experiences often reminded me of this statement given by the founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, “Harmony in man is as beautiful as in music.” In my study of Christian Science I have learned that not only are health and harmony in us beautiful but they are also normal because, as it says in the first chapter of Genesis, we were made in God’s image and likeness. In my public practice of Christian Science, I help others find their deeper connection to the divine.
