Based in Philadelphia, PA, language connectED is a professional communications consulting firm that designs workshops and training materials to help professionals craft and improve their strategic communication and leadership skills. Established in 2013, we began our work in the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, working with international biomedical researchers, supporting them to clearly and effectively communicate their science to diverse audiences. Effective Science Communication coaching in the biomedical space is a large body of our work, coaching over 1,000 biomedical researchers since 2013 at research institutions across the US and globe, including the University of Pennsylvania Perleman School of Medicine, Harvard, NYU, Columbia, Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (Japan) and many more. We also design and facilitate training opportunities for professional development and career offices in institutions of higher education. The foundation of skills and strategies for effective communication are the foundation of our trainings. In addition to effective communication training, we also support non-profits in the area of transformational thinking, program design, and program management. I worked in the English Language Programs (ELP) at the University of Pennsylvania in the School of Arts and Sciences. This is an intensive English language program. I was the director and founder of the 'English for the Restaurant and Everyday Living' program. This is a program designed for non-native speakers who work in the restaurant setting. I managed more than 70 students and 20 teachers in year one. Students engaged in structured English classes that focused on language and skills specific to everyday communication and the restaurant industry. This workforce development program established career pipelines in both the restaurant and hospitality spaces through strategic partnerships with a variety of restaurants and purveyors through the city, at one point having a pipeline to more than 20 restaurants for service and kitchen jobs. It later evolved into a teacher training pipeline. I envisioned, planned, and implemented all aspects of this program from the ground up; within one year of existence, I established large scale networks of partnership and supporters, allowing us to grow exponentially in a short time. We also quickly became recognized as an asset to career development opportunities by the City of Philadelphia, developing lasting relationships with the Mayor’s Office of Adult Education at the time. I put these internship and apprenticeship opportunities into motion, creating sustainability measures, and I’m proud to note these are still in existence today, having served thousands of learners over the years.Additionally, I was actively involved in numerous fundraising and grant writing efforts as a part of this work.

Designed and Instructed 'ESL through Art Education,' an undergraduate/graduate course in Education

Taught in the Intensive English Language Program (IELP). Curriculum Designer and Instructor of: Advanced Writing, Advanced Reading, and Intermediate Pronunciation.

At this location I worked as an 8th Grade Social Studies Teacher. I focused on presenting my class as a content based course, facilitating content and language learning simultaneously.

At this location I worked with a mostly immigrant population who were looking to acquire basic English language skills for specific purposes (i.e. restaurant work, hospital settings, supermarket).

In this setting I worked as a 9th Grade World History Teacher. I facilitated bilingual (English/Spanish) history courses. The student population that I worked with was entirely comprised of native Spanish speakers; therefore, a large majority of the materials were in Spanish and the Spanish language was used to support and assure learning of the history content. Students were not only learning history, but also focused on English language acquisition (CBI class).
