Education Director And Program Founder
I was the director and founder of the 'English for the Restaurant and Everyday Living' program. This is a program designed for non-native speakers who work in the restaurant setting. I managed more than 70 students and 20 teachers in year one. Students engaged in structured English classes that focused on language and skills specific to everyday communication and the restaurant industry. This workforce development program established career pipelines in both the restaurant and hospitality spaces through strategic partnerships with a variety of restaurants and purveyors through the city, at one point having a pipeline to more than 20 restaurants for service and kitchen jobs. It later evolved into a teacher training pipeline. I envisioned, planned, and implemented all aspects of this program from the ground up; within one year of existence, I established large scale networks of partnership and supporters, allowing us to grow exponentially in a short time. We also quickly became recognized as an asset to career development opportunities by the City of Philadelphia, developing lasting relationships with the Mayor’s Office of Adult Education at the time. I put these internship and apprenticeship opportunities into motion, creating sustainability measures, and I’m proud to note these are still in existence today, having served thousands of learners over the years.Additionally, I was actively involved in numerous fundraising and grant writing efforts as a part of this work.

World History Teacher (Bilingual Teacher--English/Spanish)
In this setting I worked as a 9th Grade World History Teacher. I facilitated bilingual (English/Spanish) history courses. The student population that I worked with was entirely comprised of native Spanish speakers; therefore, a large majority of the materials were in Spanish and the Spanish language was used to support and assure learning of the history content. Students were not only learning history, but also focused on English language acquisition (CBI class).
