Although it is not quite "strategic communications-related," the most important thing I did for Sesame is safely transported Elmo and Cookie Monster back and forth from the studio, so I was trusted around the office with VIPs (Very Important Puppets).

In order to save up a little for graduate school, I decided to take a customer service position at home. At Old Navy, I was able to work on my communications skills while advocating for a brand I believed in. I was given the "Loyalty Lead" title after just two months of work, which meant I really knew my stuff about details and benefits of the loyalty programs. In four months of work, I worked my way up to fourth place on the credit card tracker, which was an annual chart tracking how many new Old Navy cards were opened. I was behind three employees that had an 8-month advantage on me in the year.

Working for a very small nonprofit, I created the monthly newsletter with MailChimp, averaging 50% opens and 21% clicks, responded to contact emails and messages, created basic marketing materials for the company & its partners, and performed other administrative duties as needed. I learned a lot about organization & communication between the small number of volunteers and employees of the organization.
