I coordinated the day to day activity of a federally funded study into wildland firefighter safety that was launched after the loss of 14 wildland firefighters on Storm King Mountain near Glenwood Springs, Colorado, in 1994. I was the key contact with the Federal Project Officer and arranged and supervised on-site interviews and focus groups at 10 locations across the country. Created and oversaw the database of information collected via focus group and a survey sent to 1,400 wildland firefighters. Authored the majority of the initial draft of what became known a,s The TriData Study, a piece of work that resonated throughout the agencies that fight wildfire. The report is still referenced today.As a former Forest Service Hotshot, I served as TriData's in-house expert on wildfire assuring technical accuracy.

Hotshots play a leading role in wildland fire suppression. Often inserted via helicopter, extreme physical hardship and danger characterized the job.
