Advising on Business Technology Architecture Design

Moving from CTO into an extended industry innovation and emerging technology role looking at next generation technology pioneering new innovative business models to transform the industry - moving from ‘software as a service’ to ‘industry as a service’

Bringing new entrepreneur and innovation thinking. Includes 5 areas: (1) Solution Design Studio: Created a new brand name, new agile 90-day accelerator methodology and physically built a new studio space. Responsible for ideation, simulation and realization into MVP's supporting both internal business units and external customers. Successes: Building Open Source code for Apple Research Kit; Developing new patient centric smart dosing (individualized dosing regimens); Amazon Echo interaction for subjects; Virtual Reality electronic consent solution. (2) Cognitive & Automation Solutions: A unit looking at computer science areas such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, bots, etc. Successful prototypes include: the automation of service desk activities; automatic ingest, coding and narrative building with cognitive science for safety adverse events. Team now expanding into Cambridge, MA. (3) intelligent Business Process Management: The delivery of a centre of excellence for business process management and workflow. Spent 12 months developing the business case and partnership agreement with Appian as a global leader. Substantial cost savings and improved times gained in starting up a clinical trial. Now have many use cases awaiting this new way of orchestrating the business. (4) Connected Devices/IoT: A new industry wide and scalable platform for handling all clinical trial messages. This being a secure private cloud deployment connecting to any front-end devices and any back-end system. A game changer for the industry with 14 value add services included. (5) Future Vision: This unit is about looking 3 to 5 years out and what the industry will look like at that time. Here a framework for thought leadership has been designed inviting various leaders to contribute papers in each of the 10 areas defined. In addition, looking at this to be the base of a new education program for digital health linking with Boston University.

Working in New York Times Square - Responsible for "next generation" Business / IT Value thought leadership and advisory to Global 500 companies worldwide

Running a 5 year contract business with 50 enterprise architects for a global top 500 company and global leading CIO/CTO combination. Advising the office of the CIO and working on a daily basis with group CTO in the specific enterprise transformational (business and IT) areas of: group IT governance; systems/business engineering; platform engineering; IT process engineering / systems development. This role involves the continual development and driving of CXO networking and relationships.

Instrumental in development of a new global RFID business and associated IT strategies for the Capgemini group. This included working across two levels of abstraction. Firstly, a company by company approach. Secondly, at an industry solution level working across all companies. Leadership and ownership of P&L for the global team ($80m pa) which included sharing of company best practice, strategic partnership alignment, linkage with government and standards bodies and maximum reuse of assets and capabilities. Key deliverables being the Drug Security Network; Maersk Sealand; Finish Post, etc.

Development of a new mobility point of view (The Mobility Service Grid / @AnyPlace) and from this created and managed a portfolio or 14 industry aligned offers. This covered the ownership of a new P&L unit for mobility and the leadership/recruitment of a new global team. Key work and deliverables across the world for Dutch Railways; BT Industries; Shell; US Swedish Hospital; Motorola, etc.

Based in Paris, the development of a new global strategic partnership business unit. By 2003, over 25% or group revenues (Euro 3bn) were associated with strategic partnerships. Created new strategic partnerships with Cisco, Sun, Microsoft, IBM, SAP, HP and Oracle. Key global work covering Total (France); PG&E (USA); Dubai Internet City & Etsalat (M.East); Telstra and NAB (Australia), Huawai (China), Vodafone (UK), etc.

Based in London, developed the UK's E-Commerce and Internet practice. In this role I assumed the additional responsibility as head of CRM for the global Insurance division. Main deliverables with clients including Ministry of Defense; Ford; Fiat (Italy); Sonae (Portugal); ManuLife (Hong Kong); Virgin, British Steel, etc.
