A few days before the university entrance for my bachelor's, I heard that my father talked with a neighbor regarding an unfortunate scenario in my country. It was about the identification of toxic heavy metals in rice. More heavy metals are getting into our bodies and as a result, the number of patients suffering from chronic kidney diseases has started to increase. It was the turning point in my professional life that I selected Chemical and Process Engineering as my major in which I can learn Food Engineering. The pathetic and heart-breaking feeling I got from that incident made me realize the necessity of food research and contributions from the field experts. As a privileged person with a free education, I am responsible for becoming a good researcher who can serve the health and well-being of humans in the future in terms of safe food consumption. Thus, my passion to become a strong researcher while enhancing my communication skills, leadership and compassion stimulated me throughout my journey. I’m a fourth-year PhD student at the School of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. My PhD research is focused on food science and technology and I am researching utilizing mushrooms as a meat alternative. As a hobby, I am involved in blog writing to support students who have the dream of pursuing higher studies like me. "Use your gifts to help and teach others"
