For this postdoctoral project, I worked on a SNF-funded research study about the link between language production and recognition processes. The project included experiments on phonetic imitation, frequency information in the production and recognition of pronunciation variants, and an electrophysiological experiment on cross-modal training effects in syllable production.

For my PhD project, I worked on acoustic-phonetic reduction in conversational speech. This work includes computational analyses of recorded speech corpora in different conversational settings (e.g. interviews vs. spontaneous conversations), a series of eye-tracking experiments that examine the role of syntactic information in the recognition of reduced word forms in Dutch, an ERP study that investigates the role of speech reduction on the perception of morphosyntactic violations, and a novel-word learning study that explores the role of orthographic information in the processing of schwa deletion in French.

For my Master’s thesis, I conducted a series of reaction time experiments that investigated the influence of nasal flapping on spoken-word recognition in American English (e.g., when the word “center” is pronounced as “cenner”). I also conducted an eye-tracking experiment that examined the time course of compensation for coarticulation during the perception of nasalized and oral vowels.

For my psychology diploma thesis (former German M.A. equivalent), I conducted an experiment that examined the influence of syllabic and phonological context on the phoneme-restoration illusion. For the analysis of the results, I used signal detection theory (SDT).
