I am a digital artist specialising in Communications. My work is an exploration of the multiple realities we live in. It takes a dualistic tone that celebrates heritage as well as challenges the pertinent socio-cultural practices and norms found in the Indian society with special prominence given to the concept of identity, gender discourses, globalization, and heritage. As a visual communicator, my art practice is mired in quotidian detail which leans towards capturing nuances of daily life that go unnoticed by the casual onlooker. I use mundane objects and reappropriated imagery found in my immediate external environment and popular culture, respectively, as markers of Indian identity to create visual narratives mirroring the unspoken realities in my country. My work explores the dichotomy between increasing xenocentrism on one hand and reluctance to have dialogue on questionable socio-cultural discourses in the contemporary Indian context on the other hand. I intend for my work to carry an evocative quality that resonates with viewers and encourages them to reflect upon the hypocrisy entailed in their subconscious emulation of the Occident.Primarily a digital artist, my seminal practice includes illustrations which translates into animations to create lasting visual impressions. I use food as a metaphor for cultural identity owing to the strong emotional frequency it induces as a core component of culture. My style of work oscillates depending on the content. While I employ minimalism in digital prints to emphasise the social message, meticulous illustrations and animations come into play when focusing primarily on cultural heritage.I treasure the local and ordinary. I operate as a silent spectator of the bustling Indian society, to find stories in the cracks of handmade terracotta pottery, the sizzling spice tempering added to food, stone grinding in the kitchen, and the bright bindi on the forehead. My practice evolves with the changing dialogues on social and cultural identity in the Indian context.
