This initiative provides alumni with benefits at 100 cultural institutions, special events, and a weekly arts and culture e-newsletter. • Created Commencement Carnival, an annual weeklong festival of culinary arts and culture open to all graduating students. • Developed President Václav Havel's seven-week artist residency focusing on the theme of arts and citizenship in 2006. Produced twenty-seven events centered on President Havel’s life, including performances, lectures, conversations, classes, and panels which included Columbia’s leading scholars and special guests such as Orhan Pamuk, Wole Soyinka, and President Bill Clinton. • Launched a Global project to further global literacy through the lens of culture. The program grew to include scores of events, often produced in collaboration with Columbia and foreign partners, including film screenings with dissident filmmakers, an evening with China’s leading avant-garde theatre director in Beijing, the showcasing of underground Chinese rock music in New York, and a concert in Beijing which premiered new jazz compositions.• Wrote weekly editorials and managed the production of a cultural e-digest.
